Product function

Vehicle fitment: 2024–2026 Toyota Tacoma models. The fitment table shows a 100% fitment match for each year. In these years the Tacoma is a midsize pickup offered with 2.4L turbo four-cylinder and i-FORCE MAX hybrid powertrains. No trim split is given, so check for the factory Stop & Start button and compare the connector photo.

What it does: From the factory, the Toyota Tacoma turns Stop & Start on again each time the engine starts. The module keeps your previous selection, so one press is enough. Switch it off once and it stays off; switch it on and that is remembered too.

Confirm first: Check the year against the fitment rows and look for the Stop & Start button. Compare your connector with the product photos.

Why it resets: The reset comes from US fuel-economy testing rules. A system that can stay off is tested both on and off and the results averaged, which lowers the label figure.

Fitting: It plugs in line with the factory connector named in the instructions, using factory-style plugs on both ends, so nothing is cut or spliced. Nothing is reprogrammed.

Shipping and warranty: No-cost standard shipping in the contiguous United States (handling 1–2 business days, transit 3–4). Pre-approved returns are accepted for 45 days, with a 20% restocking fee and customer-paid return shipping. The part has a 3-year limited warranty. Fitment questions go to support@automotivebypass.com (Mon–Fri, 9–5 PST); include the VIN.

Description

Built for the 2024–2026 Toyota Tacoma, this plug-and-play memory harness keeps Stop & Start in whatever state you left it. Press the button once, and the setting carries over to the next start. It plugs in line with the factory connector named in the instructions, using factory-style plugs on both ends, so nothing is cut or spliced.

It does not delete the feature. Turning stop-start back on is the same button press as before, and the module will remember that too. Removing it returns the vehicle to its original default.

Vehicles and years covered

Every row below is listed as a 100% fitment match for this part:

  • Toyota Tacoma: 2024–2026

For reference, the Toyota Tacoma in these years is a midsize pickup offered with 2.4L turbo four-cylinder and i-FORCE MAX hybrid powertrains. Trim is not listed separately. Any trim in these years with factory stop-start and the pictured connector is covered.

Why the button resets

Stop & Start is designed to default to on. The off switch (usually marked with an "A" inside a circular arrow) cancels it for the current drive. At the next start the system is armed again. That reset is intentional on the manufacturer's side, and it is the only behavior this module changes.

Why owners turn it off

Stop-start saves the most fuel in long idles, but plenty of drivers would rather keep the engine running. Common reasons: towing or hauling, where an engine restart under load is unwelcome; drive-thru lines and parking lots, where the engine cycles on and off every few feet; hot days, when the A/C compressor stops with the engine on many vehicles; and stop-and-go traffic where the restart delay is noticeable when pulling into a gap. On a midsize pickup, any of these can mean a button press at the start of nearly every drive.

Diagnostics first

A warning light that appears after installation usually means a connector is not fully seated. Switch the ignition off, reseat both ends until the locks click, and test again. If the light stays on, remove the module and confirm the vehicle is fault-free on its own before contacting support.

Conditions the factory system checks

Even with Stop & Start enabled, the engine control logic only stops the engine when conditions allow it. Typical blockers are a low battery state of charge, an engine that has not reached operating temperature, heavy heating or A/C demand, steering input, an open door or unlatched seatbelt, and some drive modes. If the system never seems to stop the engine, one of these is usually the reason, and the module does not change that logic.

What to expect

  • Does not disable warning lights or diagnostic functions.
  • Comes out in the same way it went in, with nothing cut.
  • Fuel use changes only the way it would if you pressed the off button yourself.
  • Carries your stop-start choice over to the next drive.

Where it connects

It plugs in line with the factory connector named in the instructions, using factory-style plugs on both ends, so nothing is cut or spliced. Work with the ignition off. Seat each connector until its lock engages, then secure the module with the supplied ties or tape so it cannot rattle or touch pedals, steering parts or anything hot. Start the vehicle, press the stop-start button once, then restart to confirm the choice is held.

A note on the battery

If the stop-start indicator shows the system as unavailable, test the battery before anything else. On stop-start vehicles that is the most common cause. A replacement should match the original specification (AGM or EFB), and some manufacturers call for a battery monitor reset after the swap.

Confirm these points

  • Model year and model match a row in the table above (2024–2026 Toyota Tacoma).
  • Your Toyota Tacoma has the factory stop-start button. Base trims or engines without stop-start have nothing for the module to remember.
  • The connector at your install point matches the one in the product photos.
  • No aftermarket remote start, alarm or gateway bypass is wired into the same circuit. If one is, email support before ordering.
  • The battery and charging system test good and no warning lights are on.
  • If you are unsure, send your VIN to support@automotivebypass.com and we will confirm fitment.

Shipping, returns and warranty

Free standard shipping covers the contiguous US, with dispatch in 1–2 business days and 3–4 days on the road after that. You have 45 days to request a return (pre-approval required, 20% restocking fee, buyer-paid return shipping). The module is backed by a 3-year limited warranty. For order or fitment questions, write to support@automotivebypass.com between 9 and 5 Pacific, Monday through Friday.

Questions & Answers
Will Stop & Start come back on when I restart my Toyota Tacoma?

Not if you turned it off before shutting down. The module repeats your last selection at the next start. If you leave it on, it stays on.

Will it fix a "stop-start unavailable" message?

No. That message usually points to the battery or a sensor. Diagnose and repair that first.

Which Toyota Tacoma years does this fit?

The listed range is 2024–2026. Check the fitment table on this page against your exact model year.

Can I remove it later?

Yes. Unplug the module and reconnect the factory connector; the vehicle returns to its stock default.

Does it change engine power or fuel trims?

No. It does not reprogram the engine or transmission computers. It only stores the stop-start button state.

Does it change how the battery is charged?

No. Charging is still managed by the vehicle. Stop-start vehicles normally use an AGM or EFB battery built for frequent restarts; replace it with the same type when it wears out.

How does it connect?

It plugs in line with the factory connector named in the instructions, using factory-style plugs on both ends, so nothing is cut or spliced.

Does my Toyota Tacoma need the factory stop-start button for this to work?

Yes. The module works with the factory stop-start system and its button. A vehicle built without stop-start has no setting for it to remember.

Does the stop-start button still work after installation on the Toyota Tacoma?

Yes. The factory button works normally. The module simply stores whatever you chose last.

Why does Stop & Start turn itself back on every time?

Automakers set stop-start to default to on at each start. Under EPA test rules, a system that stays off after shutdown is tested both on and off and the results are averaged, which lowers the rated fuel economy, so most systems reset at every key cycle. The module carries your last choice across that reset.

What happens if I unplug it?

The vehicle returns to the factory default, with Stop & Start switched on at every start.

Why does my Toyota Tacoma sometimes not auto-stop even when the system is on?

The factory logic checks battery charge, engine temperature, climate load and other inputs. If any are outside range it keeps the engine running. The module does not affect those checks.

Is this the same part for every Toyota?

No. Connectors and the module that holds the stop-start state differ by platform, so this SKU is matched to the fitment rows on this page. Send the VIN to support if you are unsure.
