Product function

Covered vehicles: 2008–2018 Buick Enclave (3.6L V6). Each listed year carries a 100% fitment match. Confirm from the RPO label or VIN that your engine is equipped with cylinder deactivation.

What to expect: No power gain: full-throttle operation already uses every cylinder. An engine that already has a valvetrain fault still needs repair. Expect a small fuel economy change at light cruise, where AFM's 5.5–7.5% estimated benefit comes from.

In short: At steady cruise, AFM drops cylinders 1, 7, 6 and 4 on the V8. This module stops the switch into reduced-cylinder mode.

Engine code: Read the engine code from the 8th VIN digit or the RPO list on the Service Parts Identification label. Non-AFM engines such as the LH9, LY6, L96, L92 and L9H are not candidates. DFM engines (2019-on L84, L87) are a separate system.

Fitting: Installation is plugging it into the OBD-II diagnostic port. No tools and no tune are needed. Remove it whenever a scan tool or emissions tester needs the port.

Reversibility: Unplug the module and factory AFM works again.

Shipping, returns, warranty: Free shipping to the contiguous US, dispatched in 1–2 business days with about 3–4 days in transit. Returns within 45 days with pre-approval (20% restocking fee, buyer pays return postage). Covered by a 3-year limited warranty. Send the VIN to support@automotivebypass.com if any row is unclear. Support answers weekdays, 9–5 Pacific.

Description

A plug-in cylinder-deactivation disabler for the 2008–2018 Buick Enclave. It goes into the OBD-II diagnostic port and keeps the factory Active Fuel Management system from engaging, so the engine runs on every cylinder all the time. Installation is plugging it in. Nothing is spliced, flashed or removed from the engine, and the factory system resumes as soon as the module is unplugged.

Vehicles, years and engines

The fitment table for this part (all rows marked 100% fitment match):

  • 2008–2018 Buick Enclave: 3.6L V6

GM used several V6 families in these years. Before ordering, confirm from your RPO label or VIN that your engine is the one listed and that it is equipped with cylinder deactivation; if in doubt, send the VIN to support.

How GM cylinder deactivation works

Cylinder deactivation shuts off fuel and valve operation on part of the engine at light load, then brings those cylinders back when you need power. The engine computer decides when to switch based on load, speed and other inputs. This module works through the OBD-II port to keep the computer from choosing the reduced mode.

Plug-in module vs. a mechanical AFM delete

Owners who want AFM gone for good sometimes go the mechanical route: non-AFM lifters, a matching camshaft and a retune. That is a large job and it is permanent. A tuner can also disable AFM in the engine computer. The plug-in module sits at the other end of the scale: no parts replaced, no software rewritten, and back to factory with one pull. It is meant for engines that run well and simply should not switch modes.

Before installing

This module prevents mode switching. It does not repair anything. If the engine already has a ticking lifter, misfire codes, low oil pressure or high oil consumption, have it diagnosed before relying on the module. Those symptoms need a mechanical repair, and keeping AFM off will not reverse damage that has already happened.

Using it day to day

The module uses the OBD-II port, so it has to come out whenever a technician or an inspection station needs the port. Plugging it back in restores the all-cylinder mode. Route it so the driver cannot kick it loose.

What owners are after

Owners usually disable AFM for one of three reasons: they notice the change between modes as a vibration or exhaust drone, they want a consistent throttle response while towing or climbing grades, or they want to limit how often the deactivation lifters switch. Keeping the engine on all cylinders addresses all three. The tradeoff is that you give up whatever fuel saving AFM was providing in light cruising.

The first drive

Expect steadier behavior at part throttle and no change at wide-open throttle. Towing and hill climbing were already mostly done on all cylinders, so the biggest change is during relaxed cruising. Average fuel economy may drop slightly depending on how much of your driving is light-load highway time.

Maintenance still matters

AFM lifters and the solenoids that control them run on engine oil pressure. Keeping the oil at the right level, using the grade GM specifies on the oil filler cap or in the owner's manual, and changing it on schedule matters whether or not AFM is active. The module changes when cylinders deactivate; it does not change the oiling system.

Check before ordering

  • Your model year, model and engine match a row in the table (2008–2018 Buick Enclave).
  • Look up the engine RPO code. Older GM vehicles print it on the Service Parts Identification sticker, often in the glovebox; 2018 and newer GM models carry it in a QR code on the driver-side B-pillar label. You can also read the 8th digit of the VIN, which is the engine code.
  • No check-engine light is on, and oil level and pressure are normal.
  • Engine swaps, custom tunes and replaced ECUs need a fitment check from support before ordering.
  • Questions: support@automotivebypass.com with your VIN.

Shipping and support

Standard shipping inside the lower 48 states costs nothing; allow 1–2 business days of handling plus 3–4 in transit. Returns need approval first and must be requested within 45 days. Approved returns are subject to a 20% restocking fee, with return shipping paid by the customer. A 3-year limited warranty applies. Email support@automotivebypass.com (Mon–Fri, 9–5 PST) with your VIN if you want a fitment check.

Questions & Answers
Does it plug into the OBD-II port on the Buick Enclave?

Yes. It plugs into the OBD-II port under the dash. There is no wiring or splicing.

Will it add horsepower?

No. It keeps all cylinders active; it does not change the engine tune.

Do I need to remove it for an emissions test or scan tool?

Yes. It uses the diagnostic port, so unplug it while the port is needed and plug it back in afterwards.

Which Buick Enclave years and engines does it fit?

The fitment table lists Buick Enclave 2008–2018 with 3.6L V6. Match your exact year and engine to a row before ordering.

Do I need it if my engine already has an AFM delete?

No. An engine with the AFM hardware removed and a matching tune no longer deactivates cylinders, so the module has nothing to manage.

Can I go back to factory AFM?

Yes. Unplug the module and the factory cylinder-deactivation strategy works again.

Will it fix lifter noise or misfires?

No. Those are mechanical or electrical faults that need their own diagnosis and repair.

Does it change anything when towing?

Under heavy load, such as towing up a grade, AFM already keeps all cylinders running. The difference shows up during lighter cruising between climbs, where the engine no longer drops cylinders.

Does it work on 2019 and newer trucks with Dynamic Fuel Management?

Only the vehicles and engines in this listing's fitment table are covered. DFM on the 2019-on Silverado 1500 and Sierra 1500 (5.3L L84, 6.2L L87) is a different system, so do not assume coverage outside the table.

How much fuel does AFM save?

EPA-test estimates published for GM's system are about 5.5–7.5%, with the benefit coming from light-load cruising. Keeping all cylinders active gives up part of that, depending on how you drive.

Is a tune or ECU reflash required?

No. The module plugs into the OBD-II port and does not rewrite the engine computer's software.

How do I tell which engine my Buick Enclave has?

Check the 8th digit of the VIN or the RPO codes on the Service Parts Identification label (QR code on the door-pillar label on 2018 and newer GM models).
