Product function

Vehicle fitment: 2012–2019 Cadillac ATS (3.6L V6). Every row in the fitment table is listed as a 100% fitment match. Confirm from the RPO label or VIN that your engine is equipped with cylinder deactivation.

Confirm first: Check VIN digit 8 or the RPO codes (glovebox sticker before 2018, door-pillar QR code from 2018). If the code is a non-AFM engine like the LH9, L96 or L9H, skip this listing.

Keep in mind: It does not add horsepower; AFM is never active at full throttle. Existing lifter, misfire or oil-consumption faults need a mechanical fix.

The job it does: On these engines AFM idles cylinders 1, 7, 6 and 4 on the V8 during light cruising. The module keeps the engine computer from selecting that mode. The shudder, drone or hesitation some owners feel at each switch goes away.

Installation: The module goes into the OBD-II port. No wiring, splicing or reflash is involved. Unplug it for inspections or diagnostics, then refit it.

Oil and care: AFM lifters are switched by oil pressure. Correct oil grade, level and change intervals still matter.

Order details: Ships free within the lower 48 states: 1–2 business days to dispatch, 3–4 more on the road. A 45-day return window applies once a return is approved, less a 20% restocking fee and return shipping. 3-year limited warranty. Not sure? Email support@automotivebypass.com with your VIN, Monday to Friday 9–5 PST.

Description

Fits the 2012–2019 Cadillac ATS. The module connects at the OBD-II port and keeps GM's cylinder deactivation from switching on, which means steady all-cylinder operation instead of repeated changes between full and partial mode. It does not rewrite engine software, and removal takes seconds: unplug the module and the vehicle is back to stock behavior.

Covered applications

Listed applications, each a 100% fitment match:

  • 2012–2019 Cadillac ATS: 3.6L V6

Confirm that your exact engine is the one in the table and that it uses cylinder deactivation. The RPO label and the VIN engine digit are the reliable ways to check, and support can confirm from a VIN.

How Active Fuel Management operates

GM's cylinder deactivation saves fuel by running the engine on fewer cylinders during light-load cruising. The switch is controlled by the engine computer. The module talks to the vehicle through the OBD-II port and keeps that reduced-cylinder mode from being selected, so all cylinders stay active.

If the engine already has symptoms

Scan for stored codes before you plug it in. Misfire codes on the deactivation cylinders, an AFM solenoid circuit code, or a lifter noise are signs of an existing problem that should be repaired first. The module is meant for a healthy engine where you simply do not want cylinder deactivation.

Engine care

AFM lifters and the solenoids that control them run on engine oil pressure. Keeping the oil at the right level, using the grade GM specifies on the oil filler cap or in the owner's manual, and changing it on schedule matters whether or not AFM is active. The module changes when cylinders deactivate; it does not change the oiling system.

Plug-in module vs. a mechanical AFM delete

A mechanical AFM delete swaps the deactivating lifters (and often the camshaft and lifter oil manifold) for non-AFM parts and requires a tune afterwards. A tune alone can switch AFM off in software. This module works through the OBD-II port instead, so the engine hardware and its calibration stay stock. That makes it the easiest option to reverse, and the right one only when the engine is mechanically healthy.

After installation

Expect steadier behavior at part throttle and no change at wide-open throttle. Towing and hill climbing were already mostly done on all cylinders, so the biggest change is during relaxed cruising. Average fuel economy may drop slightly depending on how much of your driving is light-load highway time.

Why owners disable it

Many drivers would rather have predictable response than the small economy gain from running on fewer cylinders, especially when towing, hauling or driving in hills. Keeping AFM off removes the mode changes entirely. It does not add horsepower, and it is not a fix for an engine that already has lifter or oil-consumption problems.

Practical notes

Because it occupies the OBD-II port, unplug the module before connecting a scan tool, an insurance logger or an emissions-test probe, then plug it back in afterwards. Make sure it sits clear of your left knee and the pedals, and that the housing is fully seated in the port.

Check before ordering

  • Your model year, model and engine match a row in the table (2012–2019 Cadillac ATS).
  • Find your engine code. On GM vehicles before the 2018 model year, the Service Parts Identification label (usually inside the glovebox on these trucks and SUVs) lists the three-character RPO codes, and the engine code starts with L. From 2018, GM moved that data into a QR code on the certification label on the driver-side door pillar. The 8th character of the VIN also identifies the engine.
  • The engine runs cleanly with no stored misfire or AFM codes.
  • If the vehicle has an engine swap, an aftermarket tune or a replacement engine computer, contact support first.
  • Questions: support@automotivebypass.com with your VIN.

Shipping and support

Standard shipping inside the lower 48 states costs nothing; allow 1–2 business days of handling plus 3–4 in transit. Returns need approval first and must be requested within 45 days. Approved returns are subject to a 20% restocking fee, with return shipping paid by the customer. A 3-year limited warranty applies. Email support@automotivebypass.com (Mon–Fri, 9–5 PST) with your VIN if you want a fitment check.

Questions & Answers
Which Cadillac ATS years and engines does it fit?

The fitment table lists Cadillac ATS 2012–2019 with 3.6L V6. Match your exact year and engine to a row before ordering.

Will it fix lifter noise or misfires?

No. Those are mechanical or electrical faults that need their own diagnosis and repair.

Does it plug into the OBD-II port on the Cadillac ATS?

Yes. It plugs into the OBD-II port under the dash. There is no wiring or splicing.

Do I need to remove it for an emissions test or scan tool?

Yes. It uses the diagnostic port, so unplug it while the port is needed and plug it back in afterwards.

Does it change anything when towing?

Under heavy load, such as towing up a grade, AFM already keeps all cylinders running. The difference shows up during lighter cruising between climbs, where the engine no longer drops cylinders.

Do I need it if my engine already has an AFM delete?

No. An engine with the AFM hardware removed and a matching tune no longer deactivates cylinders, so the module has nothing to manage.

How do I tell which engine my Cadillac ATS has?

Check the 8th digit of the VIN or the RPO codes on the Service Parts Identification label (QR code on the door-pillar label on 2018 and newer GM models).

Will it add horsepower?

No. It keeps all cylinders active; it does not change the engine tune.

How much fuel does AFM save?

EPA-test estimates published for GM's system are about 5.5–7.5%, with the benefit coming from light-load cruising. Keeping all cylinders active gives up part of that, depending on how you drive.

Does it work on 2019 and newer trucks with Dynamic Fuel Management?

Only the vehicles and engines in this listing's fitment table are covered. DFM on the 2019-on Silverado 1500 and Sierra 1500 (5.3L L84, 6.2L L87) is a different system, so do not assume coverage outside the table.

Is a tune or ECU reflash required?

No. The module plugs into the OBD-II port and does not rewrite the engine computer's software.

Can I go back to factory AFM?

Yes. Unplug the module and the factory cylinder-deactivation strategy works again.
