Cadillac CTS 2004-2018 3.6L/6.0L/6.2L V6/V8 AFM/DFM Disabler
Product function
Fits: 2004–2018 Cadillac CTS (3.6L V6, 6.0L V8, 6.2L V8). Every row in the fitment table is listed as a 100% fitment match. Confirm from the RPO label or VIN that your engine is equipped with cylinder deactivation.
What to expect: It does not add horsepower; AFM is never active at full throttle. An engine that already has a valvetrain fault still needs repair.
Still important: AFM lifters are switched by oil pressure. Keep the oil at the right level and use the grade GM specifies. Start with a healthy engine: clear up misfire or lifter codes first.
Before you order: Your engine code is in the VIN (8th character) and on the RPO label. Non-AFM engines such as the LH9, LY6, L96, L92 and L9H are not candidates.
The job it does: Cylinder deactivation on these engines switches off cylinders 1, 7, 6 and 4 on the V8 when load is light. With the module in place, the engine stays on all cylinders. The shudder, drone or hesitation some owners feel at each switch goes away.
Fitting: The module goes into the OBD-II port. No wiring, splicing or reflash is involved. Unplug it for inspections or diagnostics, then refit it.
Shipping, returns, warranty: No-cost standard shipping in the contiguous United States (handling 1–2 business days, transit 3–4). Pre-approved returns are accepted for 45 days, with a 20% restocking fee and customer-paid return shipping. The part has a 3-year limited warranty. Not sure? Email support@automotivebypass.com with your VIN, Monday to Friday 9–5 PST.

Description
For the 2004–2018 Cadillac CTS: an OBD-II plug-in module that stops the engine from switching into cylinder-deactivation mode. The engine stays on all cylinders during cruising and light throttle, where AFM would normally shut half of them down. There is no tune involved and nothing inside the engine is changed. Pull it out of the port and the factory strategy returns.
Fitment by year and engine
Listed applications, each a 100% fitment match:
- 2004–2018 Cadillac CTS: 3.6L V6 / 6.0L V8 / 6.2L V8
GM used several V6 families in these years. Before ordering, confirm from your RPO label or VIN that your engine is the one listed and that it is equipped with cylinder deactivation; if in doubt, send the VIN to support.
What AFM does on these engines
GM's Active Fuel Management turns a V8 into a V4 at light load by deactivating cylinders 1, 7, 6 and 4. Solenoids route oil pressure to the lifters on those cylinders, which collapse and stop opening the valves. Fuel to those cylinders is cut at the same time. Press the throttle harder and the system brings all eight back.
The first drive
The difference shows up in light-load driving: steady highway speeds, gentle acceleration and coasting down small grades. Those are the moments when AFM used to drop cylinders. With the module in, engine behavior there should feel the same as under heavier throttle. Full-throttle performance does not change, because AFM was never active at full throttle anyway.
Scan tools and inspections
Because it occupies the OBD-II port, unplug the module before connecting a scan tool, an insurance logger or an emissions-test probe, then plug it back in afterwards. Make sure it sits clear of your left knee and the pedals, and that the housing is fully seated in the port.
Engine care
Oil level and quality are worth watching on any AFM engine, because the deactivation hardware is hydraulic. Check the dipstick at fuel stops on high-mileage engines, follow GM's specified oil grade, and address oil-pressure warnings immediately. None of that changes with the module installed.
If the engine already has symptoms
Keep the oil at the correct level and grade before and after installation. AFM lifters and their solenoids are oil-pressure operated, so an engine that is low on oil or running the wrong grade should be sorted out first. The module stops the switching, but it is not a substitute for maintenance or for repairing an engine that already has a fault.
Module, tune or delete kit
Owners who want AFM gone for good sometimes go the mechanical route: non-AFM lifters, a matching camshaft and a retune. That is a large job and it is permanent. A tuner can also disable AFM in the engine computer. The plug-in module sits at the other end of the scale: no parts replaced, no software rewritten, and back to factory with one pull. It is meant for engines that run well and simply should not switch modes.
What owners are after
Owners usually disable AFM for one of three reasons: they notice the change between modes as a vibration or exhaust drone, they want a consistent throttle response while towing or climbing grades, or they want to limit how often the deactivation lifters switch. Keeping the engine on all cylinders addresses all three. The tradeoff is that you give up whatever fuel saving AFM was providing in light cruising.
How to confirm your engine code
- Your model year, model and engine match a row in the table (2004–2018 Cadillac CTS).
- Look up the engine RPO code. Older GM vehicles print it on the Service Parts Identification sticker, often in the glovebox; 2018 and newer GM models carry it in a QR code on the driver-side B-pillar label. You can also read the 8th digit of the VIN, which is the engine code.
- No check-engine light is on, and oil level and pressure are normal.
- Engine swaps, custom tunes and replaced ECUs need a fitment check from support before ordering.
- Questions: support@automotivebypass.com with your VIN.

Questions & Answers
Will it fix lifter noise or misfires?
No. Those are mechanical or electrical faults that need their own diagnosis and repair.
Do I need to remove it for an emissions test or scan tool?
Yes. It uses the diagnostic port, so unplug it while the port is needed and plug it back in afterwards.
Does it plug into the OBD-II port on the Cadillac CTS?
Yes. It plugs into the OBD-II port under the dash. There is no wiring or splicing.
Which Cadillac CTS years and engines does it fit?
The fitment table lists Cadillac CTS 2004–2018 with 3.6L V6, 6.0L V8, 6.2L V8. Match your exact year and engine to a row before ordering.
Is a tune or ECU reflash required?
No. The module plugs into the OBD-II port and does not rewrite the engine computer's software.
Do I need it if my engine already has an AFM delete?
No. An engine with the AFM hardware removed and a matching tune no longer deactivates cylinders, so the module has nothing to manage.
Does it change anything when towing?
Under heavy load, such as towing up a grade, AFM already keeps all cylinders running. The difference shows up during lighter cruising between climbs, where the engine no longer drops cylinders.
How do I tell which engine my Cadillac CTS has?
Check the 8th digit of the VIN or the RPO codes on the Service Parts Identification label (QR code on the door-pillar label on 2018 and newer GM models).
Will it add horsepower?
No. It keeps all cylinders active; it does not change the engine tune.
Can I go back to factory AFM?
Yes. Unplug the module and the factory cylinder-deactivation strategy works again.
How much fuel does AFM save?
EPA-test estimates published for GM's system are about 5.5–7.5%, with the benefit coming from light-load cruising. Keeping all cylinders active gives up part of that, depending on how you drive.
Does it work on 2019 and newer trucks with Dynamic Fuel Management?
Only the vehicles and engines in this listing's fitment table are covered. DFM on the 2019-on Silverado 1500 and Sierra 1500 (5.3L L84, 6.2L L87) is a different system, so do not assume coverage outside the table.
