Cadillac Escalade ESV 2010-2017 6.2L V8 AFM/DFM Disabler
Product function
Covered vehicles: Listed for the 2010–2017 Cadillac Escalade ESV (6.2L V8). Every row in the fitment table is listed as a 100% fitment match. AFM engine codes that match these years and sizes: L94, L86.
What it does: At steady cruise, AFM drops cylinders 1, 7, 6 and 4 on the V8. The module keeps the engine computer from selecting that mode. Mode changes, and the vibration that can come with them, stop.
If you change your mind: Removing it restores factory cylinder deactivation. There is nothing to undo in the engine or its software.
Keep in mind: Peak output is unchanged. An engine that already has a valvetrain fault still needs repair.
Confirm first: Your engine code is in the VIN (8th character) and on the RPO label. Engines built without AFM (LH9, LY6, L96, L92, L9H) have nothing for it to manage. DFM engines (2019-on L84, L87) are a separate system.
How it connects: The module goes into the OBD-II port. No wiring, splicing or reflash is involved. Take it out when a shop needs the port.
Shipping and warranty: Free shipping to the contiguous US, dispatched in 1–2 business days with about 3–4 days in transit. Returns within 45 days with pre-approval (20% restocking fee, buyer pays return postage). Covered by a 3-year limited warranty. Not sure? Email support@automotivebypass.com with your VIN, Monday to Friday 9–5 PST.

Description
Fits the 2010–2017 Cadillac Escalade ESV. The module connects at the OBD-II port and keeps GM's cylinder deactivation from switching on, which means steady all-cylinder operation instead of repeated changes between full and partial mode. It does not rewrite engine software, and removal takes seconds: unplug the module and the vehicle is back to stock behavior.
What it fits
The fitment table for this part (all rows marked 100% fitment match):
- 2010–2017 Cadillac Escalade ESV: 6.2L V8
For reference, these are the AFM-equipped GM engine codes that match the years and displacements above:
- L94 (6.2L, 2010–2014, VIN 8th digit "F")
- L86 (6.2L, 2014–2018, VIN 8th digit "J")
In the same trucks and SUVs, GM also built V8s without AFM, for example the 5.3L LH9 (2010–2012 trucks, VIN code P), the 6.0L LY6 and L96 and the 6.2L L9H. Those engines never deactivate cylinders, so the module has nothing to manage on them. Check your code against both lists before you buy.
If your engine code is not in this list, email the VIN to support before ordering so we can confirm the application.
How GM cylinder deactivation works
On AFM V8 engines, the computer shuts off fuel and holds the valves closed on cylinders 1, 7, 6 and 4 when the load is light, so the engine runs as a V4. It does this through special collapsible lifters on those cylinders, fed by oil-pressure solenoids. When you ask for more power, the lifters lock again and all eight cylinders fire. GM describes this behavior in its service bulletin on AFM and DFM operation.
GM replaced AFM with Dynamic Fuel Management (DFM) on the 5.3L L84 and 6.2L L87 starting with the 2019 Silverado 1500 and Sierra 1500. The engines covered here use the earlier AFM design.
The first drive
Drive at a steady cruise on a light throttle, where AFM used to switch modes. The engine should now stay on all cylinders, so the subtle shudder, drone or hesitation that came with each change should be gone. If your dash shows instant fuel economy, expect the light-cruise numbers to read a little lower than before, since that is exactly where cylinder deactivation saved fuel.
Diagnose existing problems first
This module prevents mode switching. It does not repair anything. If the engine already has a ticking lifter, misfire codes, low oil pressure or high oil consumption, have it diagnosed before relying on the module. Those symptoms need a mechanical repair, and keeping AFM off will not reverse damage that has already happened.
Keep up with oil changes
AFM lifters and the solenoids that control them run on engine oil pressure. Keeping the oil at the right level, using the grade GM specifies on the oil filler cap or in the owner's manual, and changing it on schedule matters whether or not AFM is active. The module changes when cylinders deactivate; it does not change the oiling system.
Using it day to day
The module uses the OBD-II port, so it has to come out whenever a technician or an inspection station needs the port. Plugging it back in restores the all-cylinder mode. Route it so the driver cannot kick it loose.
Why people turn AFM off
A Cadillac Escalade ESV with AFM switches modes many times on a typical drive. Some owners never notice; others feel it every time. If you are in the second group, or you tow and want steady behavior, keeping all cylinders active is the simplest answer. Fuel use at light cruise will usually rise a little, since that is where AFM saves fuel.
Other ways owners disable AFM
Owners who want AFM gone for good sometimes go the mechanical route: non-AFM lifters, a matching camshaft and a retune. That is a large job and it is permanent. A tuner can also disable AFM in the engine computer. The plug-in module sits at the other end of the scale: no parts replaced, no software rewritten, and back to factory with one pull. It is meant for engines that run well and simply should not switch modes.
Confirm your engine
- Your model year, model and engine match a row in the table (2010–2017 Cadillac Escalade ESV).
- Find your engine code. On GM vehicles before the 2018 model year, the Service Parts Identification label (usually inside the glovebox on these trucks and SUVs) lists the three-character RPO codes, and the engine code starts with L. From 2018, GM moved that data into a QR code on the certification label on the driver-side door pillar. The 8th character of the VIN also identifies the engine.
- The engine runs cleanly with no stored misfire or AFM codes.
- Engine swaps, custom tunes and replaced ECUs need a fitment check from support before ordering.
- Questions: support@automotivebypass.com with your VIN.

Questions & Answers
Will it add horsepower?
No. It keeps all cylinders active; it does not change the engine tune.
Does it plug into the OBD-II port on the Cadillac Escalade ESV?
Yes. It plugs into the OBD-II port under the dash. There is no wiring or splicing.
Which Cadillac Escalade ESV years and engines does it fit?
The fitment table lists Cadillac Escalade ESV 2010–2017 with 6.2L V8. Match your exact year and engine to a row before ordering.
Do I need to remove it for an emissions test or scan tool?
Yes. It uses the diagnostic port, so unplug it while the port is needed and plug it back in afterwards.
Do I need it if my engine already has an AFM delete?
No. An engine with the AFM hardware removed and a matching tune no longer deactivates cylinders, so the module has nothing to manage.
Does it work on 2019 and newer trucks with Dynamic Fuel Management?
Only the vehicles and engines in this listing's fitment table are covered. DFM on the 2019-on Silverado 1500 and Sierra 1500 (5.3L L84, 6.2L L87) is a different system, so do not assume coverage outside the table.
How do I tell which engine my Cadillac Escalade ESV has?
Check the 8th digit of the VIN or the RPO codes on the Service Parts Identification label (QR code on the door-pillar label on 2018 and newer GM models).
Will it fix lifter noise or misfires?
No. Those are mechanical or electrical faults that need their own diagnosis and repair.
Does it change anything when towing?
Under heavy load, such as towing up a grade, AFM already keeps all cylinders running. The difference shows up during lighter cruising between climbs, where the engine no longer drops cylinders.
Can I go back to factory AFM?
Yes. Unplug the module and the factory cylinder-deactivation strategy works again.
How much fuel does AFM save?
EPA-test estimates published for GM's system are about 5.5–7.5%, with the benefit coming from light-load cruising. Keeping all cylinders active gives up part of that, depending on how you drive.
Is a tune or ECU reflash required?
No. The module plugs into the OBD-II port and does not rewrite the engine computer's software.
