Cadillac SRX 2004-2009 3.6L V6 AFM/DFM Disabler
Product function
Vehicle fitment: Listed for the 2004–2009 Cadillac SRX (3.6L V6). Every row in the fitment table is listed as a 100% fitment match. Confirm from the RPO label or VIN that your engine is equipped with cylinder deactivation.
The job it does: On these engines AFM idles cylinders 1, 7, 6 and 4 on the V8 during light cruising. Plugged in, it keeps the engine in full-cylinder operation. The shudder, drone or hesitation some owners feel at each switch goes away.
Fitting: Installation is plugging it into the OBD-II diagnostic port. No tools and no tune are needed. Remove it whenever a scan tool or emissions tester needs the port.
What it does not change: It does not add horsepower; AFM is never active at full throttle. An engine that already has a valvetrain fault still needs repair.
Before you order: Read the engine code from the 8th VIN digit or the RPO list on the Service Parts Identification label. Engines built without AFM (LH9, LY6, L96, L92, L9H) have nothing for it to manage.
Shipping and warranty: Ships free within the lower 48 states: 1–2 business days to dispatch, 3–4 more on the road. A 45-day return window applies once a return is approved, less a 20% restocking fee and return shipping. 3-year limited warranty. Fitment questions go to support@automotivebypass.com (Mon–Fri, 9–5 PST); include the VIN.

Description
For the 2004–2009 Cadillac SRX: an OBD-II plug-in module that stops the engine from switching into cylinder-deactivation mode. The engine stays on all cylinders during cruising and light throttle, where AFM would normally shut half of them down. No tools, no wiring and no reflash of the engine computer. Unplug it and AFM works again as it did from the factory.
Covered applications
Each row below is listed as a 100% fitment match:
- 2004–2009 Cadillac SRX: 3.6L V6
Confirm that your exact engine is the one in the table and that it uses cylinder deactivation. The RPO label and the VIN engine digit are the reliable ways to check, and support can confirm from a VIN.
The factory system in brief
GM's cylinder deactivation saves fuel by running the engine on fewer cylinders during light-load cruising. The switch is controlled by the engine computer. The module talks to the vehicle through the OBD-II port and keeps that reduced-cylinder mode from being selected, so all cylinders stay active.
Scan tools and inspections
The module uses the OBD-II port, so it has to come out whenever a technician or an inspection station needs the port. Plugging it back in restores the all-cylinder mode. Route it so the driver cannot kick it loose.
Keep up with oil changes
Oil level and quality are worth watching on any AFM engine, because the deactivation hardware is hydraulic. Check the dipstick at fuel stops on high-mileage engines, follow GM's specified oil grade, and address oil-pressure warnings immediately. None of that changes with the module installed.
Plug-in module vs. a mechanical AFM delete
A mechanical AFM delete swaps the deactivating lifters (and often the camshaft and lifter oil manifold) for non-AFM parts and requires a tune afterwards. A tune alone can switch AFM off in software. This module works through the OBD-II port instead, so the engine hardware and its calibration stay stock. That makes it the easiest option to reverse, and the right one only when the engine is mechanically healthy.
Before installing
Scan for stored codes before you plug it in. Misfire codes on the deactivation cylinders, an AFM solenoid circuit code, or a lifter noise are signs of an existing problem that should be repaired first. The module is meant for a healthy engine where you simply do not want cylinder deactivation.
After installation
The difference shows up in light-load driving: steady highway speeds, gentle acceleration and coasting down small grades. Those are the moments when AFM used to drop cylinders. With the module in, engine behavior there should feel the same as under heavier throttle. Full-throttle performance does not change, because AFM was never active at full throttle anyway.
Why people turn AFM off
The usual complaints are a drone or shudder in reduced-cylinder mode, a slight hesitation when the engine switches back, and a general wish to keep the valvetrain doing the same thing all the time. With the module installed, the engine stays in full-cylinder mode, so those transitions stop. Expect light-load fuel economy to be closer to an engine without AFM.
Confirm your engine
- Your model year, model and engine match a row in the table (2004–2009 Cadillac SRX).
- The quickest checks are the 8th digit of your VIN, which identifies the engine, and the RPO list on the Service Parts Identification label (glovebox or trunk on most pre-2018 GM models, QR code on the driver-door pillar label from 2018).
- The engine runs cleanly with no stored misfire or AFM codes.
- Engine swaps, custom tunes and replaced ECUs need a fitment check from support before ordering.
- Questions: support@automotivebypass.com with your VIN.
Warranty and returns
We ship free within the contiguous United States (1–2 business days to dispatch, roughly 3–4 business days in transit). If it turns out to be the wrong part, request a return authorization within 45 days; returns carry a 20% restocking fee and return postage is on the buyer. Coverage is a 3-year limited warranty. Questions go to support@automotivebypass.com, weekdays 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. PST.
Questions & Answers
Will it add horsepower?
No. It keeps all cylinders active; it does not change the engine tune.
Does it plug into the OBD-II port on the Cadillac SRX?
Yes. It plugs into the OBD-II port under the dash. There is no wiring or splicing.
Which Cadillac SRX years and engines does it fit?
The fitment table lists Cadillac SRX 2004–2009 with 3.6L V6. Match your exact year and engine to a row before ordering.
Do I need to remove it for an emissions test or scan tool?
Yes. It uses the diagnostic port, so unplug it while the port is needed and plug it back in afterwards.
Can I go back to factory AFM?
Yes. Unplug the module and the factory cylinder-deactivation strategy works again.
How much fuel does AFM save?
EPA-test estimates published for GM's system are about 5.5–7.5%, with the benefit coming from light-load cruising. Keeping all cylinders active gives up part of that, depending on how you drive.
Do I need it if my engine already has an AFM delete?
No. An engine with the AFM hardware removed and a matching tune no longer deactivates cylinders, so the module has nothing to manage.
Is a tune or ECU reflash required?
No. The module plugs into the OBD-II port and does not rewrite the engine computer's software.
Does it work on 2019 and newer trucks with Dynamic Fuel Management?
Only the vehicles and engines in this listing's fitment table are covered. DFM on the 2019-on Silverado 1500 and Sierra 1500 (5.3L L84, 6.2L L87) is a different system, so do not assume coverage outside the table.
How do I tell which engine my Cadillac SRX has?
Check the 8th digit of the VIN or the RPO codes on the Service Parts Identification label (QR code on the door-pillar label on 2018 and newer GM models).
Will it fix lifter noise or misfires?
No. Those are mechanical or electrical faults that need their own diagnosis and repair.
Does it change anything when towing?
Under heavy load, such as towing up a grade, AFM already keeps all cylinders running. The difference shows up during lighter cruising between climbs, where the engine no longer drops cylinders.
