GMC Yukon Denali 2007-2017 6.0L/6.2L V8 AFM/DFM Disabler
Product function
Applications: The 2007–2017 GMC Yukon Denali (6.0L V8, 6.2L V8). Every row in the fitment table is listed as a 100% fitment match. AFM engine codes that match these years and sizes: L76, LFA, L94, L86.
Before you order: Your engine code is in the VIN (8th character) and on the RPO label. If the code is a non-AFM engine like the LH9, L96 or L9H, skip this listing.
Engine care: The AFM hardware runs on engine oil pressure. Correct oil grade, level and change intervals still matter.
Keep in mind: Peak output is unchanged. Existing lifter, misfire or oil-consumption faults need a mechanical fix. Expect a small fuel economy change at light cruise, where AFM's 5.5–7.5% estimated benefit comes from.
The job it does: At steady cruise, AFM drops cylinders 1, 7, 6 and 4 on the V8. Plugged in, it keeps the engine in full-cylinder operation.
How it connects: The module goes into the OBD-II port. No tools and no tune are needed. Unplug it for inspections or diagnostics, then refit it.
Reversibility: Removing it restores factory cylinder deactivation.
Ordering terms: Free shipping to the contiguous US, dispatched in 1–2 business days with about 3–4 days in transit. Returns within 45 days with pre-approval (20% restocking fee, buyer pays return postage). Covered by a 3-year limited warranty. Not sure? Email support@automotivebypass.com with your VIN, Monday to Friday 9–5 PST.

Description
This AFM/DFM disabler plugs into the OBD-II port of the 2007–2017 GMC Yukon Denali. Its job is to keep the engine running on all cylinders instead of dropping into the reduced-cylinder mode that GM's Active Fuel Management uses at light load. Installation is plugging it in. Nothing is spliced, flashed or removed from the engine, and the factory system resumes as soon as the module is unplugged.
Vehicles, years and engines
The fitment table for this part (all rows marked 100% fitment match):
- 2007–2009 GMC Yukon Denali: 6.0L V8 / 6.2L V8
- 2010–2017 GMC Yukon Denali: 6.2L V8
GM engine codes with AFM that line up with these years and displacements:
- L76 (6.0L, 2007–2009, VIN 8th digit "Y")
- LFA (6.0L, 2008–2009, VIN 8th digit "5")
- L94 (6.2L, 2010–2014, VIN 8th digit "F")
- L86 (6.2L, 2014–2018, VIN 8th digit "J")
In the same trucks and SUVs, GM also built V8s without AFM, for example the 5.3L LH9 (2010–2012 trucks, VIN code P), the 6.0L LY6 and L96 and the 6.2L L9H. Those engines never deactivate cylinders, so the module has nothing to manage on them. If your RPO list shows one of those codes, contact us before ordering.
If your engine code is not in this list, email the VIN to support before ordering so we can confirm the application.
The factory system in brief
GM's Active Fuel Management turns a V8 into a V4 at light load by deactivating cylinders 1, 7, 6 and 4. Solenoids route oil pressure to the lifters on those cylinders, which collapse and stop opening the valves. Fuel to those cylinders is cut at the same time. Press the throttle harder and the system brings all eight back.
For the 2019 redesign of the Silverado 1500 and Sierra 1500, GM introduced Dynamic Fuel Management on the 5.3L L84 and 6.2L L87, which can run on 17 different cylinder patterns. That is a different system from the AFM covered by this listing.
Other ways owners disable AFM
Owners who want AFM gone for good sometimes go the mechanical route: non-AFM lifters, a matching camshaft and a retune. That is a large job and it is permanent. A tuner can also disable AFM in the engine computer. The plug-in module sits at the other end of the scale: no parts replaced, no software rewritten, and back to factory with one pull. It is meant for engines that run well and simply should not switch modes.
Scan tools and inspections
Leave it in the port for everyday driving. When the vehicle goes in for service or an emissions check, remove it so the shop has normal access to the diagnostic connector, then reinstall it.
Before installing
This module prevents mode switching. It does not repair anything. If the engine already has a ticking lifter, misfire codes, low oil pressure or high oil consumption, have it diagnosed before relying on the module. Those symptoms need a mechanical repair, and keeping AFM off will not reverse damage that has already happened.
Engine care
Disabling cylinder deactivation does not replace normal maintenance. Use the oil grade and change interval GM lists for your engine, watch the oil level between changes, and repair leaks promptly. The valvetrain on these engines depends on clean oil at proper pressure in every mode.
What owners are after
The usual complaints are a drone or shudder in reduced-cylinder mode, a slight hesitation when the engine switches back, and a general wish to keep the valvetrain doing the same thing all the time. With the module installed, the engine stays in full-cylinder mode, so those transitions stop. Expect light-load fuel economy to be closer to an engine without AFM.
After installation
Expect steadier behavior at part throttle and no change at wide-open throttle. Towing and hill climbing were already mostly done on all cylinders, so the biggest change is during relaxed cruising. Average fuel economy may drop slightly depending on how much of your driving is light-load highway time.
Confirm your engine
- Your model year, model and engine match a row in the table (2007–2017 GMC Yukon Denali).
- Look up the engine RPO code. Older GM vehicles print it on the Service Parts Identification sticker, often in the glovebox; 2018 and newer GM models carry it in a QR code on the driver-side B-pillar label. You can also read the 8th digit of the VIN, which is the engine code.
- No check-engine light is on, and oil level and pressure are normal.
- If the vehicle has an engine swap, an aftermarket tune or a replacement engine computer, contact support first.
- Questions: support@automotivebypass.com with your VIN.

Questions & Answers
Will it fix lifter noise or misfires?
No. Those are mechanical or electrical faults that need their own diagnosis and repair.
Can I go back to factory AFM?
Yes. Unplug the module and the factory cylinder-deactivation strategy works again.
Which GMC Yukon Denali years and engines does it fit?
The fitment table lists GMC Yukon Denali 2007–2017 with 6.0L V8, 6.2L V8. Match your exact year and engine to a row before ordering.
Does it plug into the OBD-II port on the GMC Yukon Denali?
Yes. It plugs into the OBD-II port under the dash. There is no wiring or splicing.
Will it add horsepower?
No. It keeps all cylinders active; it does not change the engine tune.
Does it change anything when towing?
Under heavy load, such as towing up a grade, AFM already keeps all cylinders running. The difference shows up during lighter cruising between climbs, where the engine no longer drops cylinders.
Does it work on 2019 and newer trucks with Dynamic Fuel Management?
Only the vehicles and engines in this listing's fitment table are covered. DFM on the 2019-on Silverado 1500 and Sierra 1500 (5.3L L84, 6.2L L87) is a different system, so do not assume coverage outside the table.
Do I need to remove it for an emissions test or scan tool?
Yes. It uses the diagnostic port, so unplug it while the port is needed and plug it back in afterwards.
How do I tell which engine my GMC Yukon Denali has?
Check the 8th digit of the VIN or the RPO codes on the Service Parts Identification label (QR code on the door-pillar label on 2018 and newer GM models).
Is a tune or ECU reflash required?
No. The module plugs into the OBD-II port and does not rewrite the engine computer's software.
How much fuel does AFM save?
EPA-test estimates published for GM's system are about 5.5–7.5%, with the benefit coming from light-load cruising. Keeping all cylinders active gives up part of that, depending on how you drive.
Do I need it if my engine already has an AFM delete?
No. An engine with the AFM hardware removed and a matching tune no longer deactivates cylinders, so the module has nothing to manage.
