Saturn Aura XR, Outlook XE/XR, Relay, VUE XR/Red Line 2006-2009 V6 AFM/DFM Disabler
Product function
Vehicle fitment: Listed for the 2006–2007 Saturn Relay, 2007–2009 Saturn Aura XR, 2007–2008 Saturn Outlook XE, 2007–2008 Saturn Outlook XR, 2008–2009 Saturn Vue XR and 2008–2009 Saturn Red Line (3.6L V6, 3.9L V6). Each listed year carries a 100% fitment match. Confirm from the RPO label or VIN that your engine is equipped with cylinder deactivation.
Keep in mind: It does not add horsepower; AFM is never active at full throttle. Existing lifter, misfire or oil-consumption faults need a mechanical fix.
Engine check: Your engine code is in the VIN (8th character) and on the RPO label. Non-AFM engines such as the LH9, LY6, L96, L92 and L9H are not candidates.
Connection: Installation is plugging it into the OBD-II diagnostic port. No wiring, splicing or reflash is involved. Remove it whenever a scan tool or emissions tester needs the port.
Maintenance: AFM lifters are switched by oil pressure. Correct oil grade, level and change intervals still matter. Scan for codes and fix existing faults before fitting the module.
Core function: On these engines AFM idles cylinders 1, 7, 6 and 4 on the V8 during light cruising. Plugged in, it keeps the engine in full-cylinder operation.
Shipping, returns, warranty: Free shipping to the contiguous US, dispatched in 1–2 business days with about 3–4 days in transit. Returns within 45 days with pre-approval (20% restocking fee, buyer pays return postage). Covered by a 3-year limited warranty. Send the VIN to support@automotivebypass.com if any row is unclear. Support answers weekdays, 9–5 Pacific.

Description
Fits the 2006–2007 Saturn Relay, 2007–2009 Saturn Aura XR, 2007–2008 Saturn Outlook XE, 2007–2008 Saturn Outlook XR, 2008–2009 Saturn Vue XR and 2008–2009 Saturn Red Line. The module connects at the OBD-II port and keeps GM's cylinder deactivation from switching on, which means steady all-cylinder operation instead of repeated changes between full and partial mode. Installation is plugging it in. Nothing is spliced, flashed or removed from the engine, and the factory system resumes as soon as the module is unplugged.
What it fits
Listed applications, each a 100% fitment match:
- 2006–2007 Saturn Relay: 3.9L V6
- 2007–2009 Saturn Aura XR: 3.6L V6
- 2007–2008 Saturn Outlook XE: 3.6L V6
- 2007–2008 Saturn Outlook XR: 3.6L V6
- 2008–2009 Saturn Vue XR: 3.6L V6
- 2008–2009 Saturn Red Line: 3.6L V6
Confirm that your exact engine is the one in the table and that it uses cylinder deactivation. The RPO label and the VIN engine digit are the reliable ways to check, and support can confirm from a VIN.
How Active Fuel Management operates
GM's cylinder deactivation saves fuel by running the engine on fewer cylinders during light-load cruising. The switch is controlled by the engine computer. The module talks to the vehicle through the OBD-II port and keeps that reduced-cylinder mode from being selected, so all cylinders stay active.
Scan tools and inspections
Because it occupies the OBD-II port, unplug the module before connecting a scan tool, an insurance logger or an emissions-test probe, then plug it back in afterwards. Make sure it sits clear of your left knee and the pedals, and that the housing is fully seated in the port.
The first drive
Expect steadier behavior at part throttle and no change at wide-open throttle. Towing and hill climbing were already mostly done on all cylinders, so the biggest change is during relaxed cruising. Average fuel economy may drop slightly depending on how much of your driving is light-load highway time.
Why people turn AFM off
Many drivers would rather have predictable response than the small economy gain from running on fewer cylinders, especially when towing, hauling or driving in hills. Keeping AFM off removes the mode changes entirely. It does not add horsepower, and it is not a fix for an engine that already has lifter or oil-consumption problems.
Plug-in module vs. a mechanical AFM delete
There are three common ways to stop cylinder deactivation on GM engines: a plug-in module like this one, a custom tune that turns AFM off in the engine computer, or a mechanical delete that replaces the AFM lifters and related hardware and then needs a tune to match. The module is the only one of the three that needs no tools and no engine-computer changes, and it is the only one you can undo by unplugging it. It does not replace failed lifters; if hardware is already damaged, the repair comes first.
Diagnose existing problems first
This module prevents mode switching. It does not repair anything. If the engine already has a ticking lifter, misfire codes, low oil pressure or high oil consumption, have it diagnosed before relying on the module. Those symptoms need a mechanical repair, and keeping AFM off will not reverse damage that has already happened.
Oil and maintenance
Oil level and quality are worth watching on any AFM engine, because the deactivation hardware is hydraulic. Check the dipstick at fuel stops on high-mileage engines, follow GM's specified oil grade, and address oil-pressure warnings immediately. None of that changes with the module installed.
Check before ordering
- Your model year, model and engine match a row in the table (2006–2007 Saturn Relay, 2007–2009 Saturn Aura XR, 2007–2008 Saturn Outlook XE, 2007–2008 Saturn Outlook XR, 2008–2009 Saturn Vue XR and 2008–2009 Saturn Red Line).
- Find your engine code. On GM vehicles before the 2018 model year, the Service Parts Identification label (usually inside the glovebox on these trucks and SUVs) lists the three-character RPO codes, and the engine code starts with L. From 2018, GM moved that data into a QR code on the certification label on the driver-side door pillar. The 8th character of the VIN also identifies the engine.
- The engine runs cleanly with no stored misfire or AFM codes.
- If the vehicle has an engine swap, an aftermarket tune or a replacement engine computer, contact support first.
- Questions: support@automotivebypass.com with your VIN.

Questions & Answers
Will it fix lifter noise or misfires?
No. Those are mechanical or electrical faults that need their own diagnosis and repair.
Will it add horsepower?
No. It keeps all cylinders active; it does not change the engine tune.
How do I tell which engine my Saturn has?
Check the 8th digit of the VIN or the RPO codes on the Service Parts Identification label (QR code on the door-pillar label on 2018 and newer GM models).
Does it plug into the OBD-II port on the Saturn?
Yes. It plugs into the OBD-II port under the dash. There is no wiring or splicing.
Which Saturn years and engines does it fit?
The fitment table lists Saturn Relay 2006–2007; Saturn Aura XR 2007–2009; Saturn Outlook XE 2007–2008; Saturn Outlook XR 2007–2008; Saturn Vue XR 2008–2009; Saturn Red Line 2008–2009 with 3.6L V6, 3.9L V6. Match your exact year and engine to a row before ordering.
Does it change anything when towing?
Under heavy load, such as towing up a grade, AFM already keeps all cylinders running. The difference shows up during lighter cruising between climbs, where the engine no longer drops cylinders.
Is a tune or ECU reflash required?
No. The module plugs into the OBD-II port and does not rewrite the engine computer's software.
Do I need it if my engine already has an AFM delete?
No. An engine with the AFM hardware removed and a matching tune no longer deactivates cylinders, so the module has nothing to manage.
Does it work on 2019 and newer trucks with Dynamic Fuel Management?
Only the vehicles and engines in this listing's fitment table are covered. DFM on the 2019-on Silverado 1500 and Sierra 1500 (5.3L L84, 6.2L L87) is a different system, so do not assume coverage outside the table.
How much fuel does AFM save?
EPA-test estimates published for GM's system are about 5.5–7.5%, with the benefit coming from light-load cruising. Keeping all cylinders active gives up part of that, depending on how you drive.
Can I go back to factory AFM?
Yes. Unplug the module and the factory cylinder-deactivation strategy works again.
Do I need to remove it for an emissions test or scan tool?
Yes. It uses the diagnostic port, so unplug it while the port is needed and plug it back in afterwards.
