Product function

Vehicle fitment: 2007–2009 Suzuki XL-7 (3.6L V6). Each listed year carries a 100% fitment match. Confirm from the RPO label or VIN that your engine is equipped with cylinder deactivation.

Limits: Peak output is unchanged. An engine that already has a valvetrain fault still needs repair. Expect a small fuel economy change at light cruise, where AFM's 5.5–7.5% estimated benefit comes from.

Oil and care: AFM lifters are switched by oil pressure. Keep the oil at the right level and use the grade GM specifies.

Connection: Installation is plugging it into the OBD-II diagnostic port. No tools and no tune are needed. Take it out when a shop needs the port.

The job it does: At steady cruise, AFM drops cylinders 1, 7, 6 and 4 on the V8. The module keeps the engine computer from selecting that mode.

Confirm first: Your engine code is in the VIN (8th character) and on the RPO label. If the code is a non-AFM engine like the LH9, L96 or L9H, skip this listing. 2019-on L84 and L87 engines use Dynamic Fuel Management, a different system.

Shipping, returns, warranty: Free shipping to the contiguous US, dispatched in 1–2 business days with about 3–4 days in transit. Returns within 45 days with pre-approval (20% restocking fee, buyer pays return postage). Covered by a 3-year limited warranty. Not sure? Email support@automotivebypass.com with your VIN, Monday to Friday 9–5 PST.

Description

Fits the 2007–2009 Suzuki XL-7. The module connects at the OBD-II port and keeps GM's cylinder deactivation from switching on, which means steady all-cylinder operation instead of repeated changes between full and partial mode. It does not rewrite engine software, and removal takes seconds: unplug the module and the vehicle is back to stock behavior.

Vehicles, years and engines

The fitment table for this part (all rows marked 100% fitment match):

  • 2007–2009 Suzuki XL-7: 3.6L V6

GM used several V6 families in these years. Before ordering, confirm from your RPO label or VIN that your engine is the one listed and that it is equipped with cylinder deactivation; if in doubt, send the VIN to support.

The factory system in brief

Cylinder deactivation shuts off fuel and valve operation on part of the engine at light load, then brings those cylinders back when you need power. The engine computer decides when to switch based on load, speed and other inputs. This module works through the OBD-II port to keep the computer from choosing the reduced mode.

The first drive

Drive at a steady cruise on a light throttle, where AFM used to switch modes. The engine should now stay on all cylinders, so the subtle shudder, drone or hesitation that came with each change should be gone. If your dash shows instant fuel economy, expect the light-cruise numbers to read a little lower than before, since that is exactly where cylinder deactivation saved fuel.

Oil and maintenance

Oil level and quality are worth watching on any AFM engine, because the deactivation hardware is hydraulic. Check the dipstick at fuel stops on high-mileage engines, follow GM's specified oil grade, and address oil-pressure warnings immediately. None of that changes with the module installed.

Plug-in module vs. a mechanical AFM delete

Owners who want AFM gone for good sometimes go the mechanical route: non-AFM lifters, a matching camshaft and a retune. That is a large job and it is permanent. A tuner can also disable AFM in the engine computer. The plug-in module sits at the other end of the scale: no parts replaced, no software rewritten, and back to factory with one pull. It is meant for engines that run well and simply should not switch modes.

Before installing

Scan for stored codes before you plug it in. Misfire codes on the deactivation cylinders, an AFM solenoid circuit code, or a lifter noise are signs of an existing problem that should be repaired first. The module is meant for a healthy engine where you simply do not want cylinder deactivation.

Why people turn AFM off

A Suzuki XL-7 with AFM switches modes many times on a typical drive. Some owners never notice; others feel it every time. If you are in the second group, or you tow and want steady behavior, keeping all cylinders active is the simplest answer. Fuel use at light cruise will usually rise a little, since that is where AFM saves fuel.

Scan tools and inspections

The module uses the OBD-II port, so it has to come out whenever a technician or an inspection station needs the port. Plugging it back in restores the all-cylinder mode. Route it so the driver cannot kick it loose.

Fitment check

  • Your model year, model and engine match a row in the table (2007–2009 Suzuki XL-7).
  • Look up the engine RPO code. Older GM vehicles print it on the Service Parts Identification sticker, often in the glovebox; 2018 and newer GM models carry it in a QR code on the driver-side B-pillar label. You can also read the 8th digit of the VIN, which is the engine code.
  • No check-engine light is on, and oil level and pressure are normal.
  • If the vehicle has an engine swap, an aftermarket tune or a replacement engine computer, contact support first.
  • Questions: support@automotivebypass.com with your VIN.

Warranty and returns

Shipping is free to the contiguous US. Orders leave in 1–2 business days and usually arrive 3–4 business days later. Returns are accepted within 45 days with pre-approval; a 20% restocking fee applies and the buyer covers return shipping. The part carries a 3-year limited warranty, and support@automotivebypass.com answers Monday to Friday, 9–5 Pacific.

Questions & Answers
Does it plug into the OBD-II port on the Suzuki XL-7?

Yes. It plugs into the OBD-II port under the dash. There is no wiring or splicing.

Which Suzuki XL-7 years and engines does it fit?

The fitment table lists Suzuki XL-7 2007–2009 with 3.6L V6. Match your exact year and engine to a row before ordering.

Do I need to remove it for an emissions test or scan tool?

Yes. It uses the diagnostic port, so unplug it while the port is needed and plug it back in afterwards.

Can I go back to factory AFM?

Yes. Unplug the module and the factory cylinder-deactivation strategy works again.

Does it work on 2019 and newer trucks with Dynamic Fuel Management?

Only the vehicles and engines in this listing's fitment table are covered. DFM on the 2019-on Silverado 1500 and Sierra 1500 (5.3L L84, 6.2L L87) is a different system, so do not assume coverage outside the table.

Does it change anything when towing?

Under heavy load, such as towing up a grade, AFM already keeps all cylinders running. The difference shows up during lighter cruising between climbs, where the engine no longer drops cylinders.

Will it fix lifter noise or misfires?

No. Those are mechanical or electrical faults that need their own diagnosis and repair.

Will it add horsepower?

No. It keeps all cylinders active; it does not change the engine tune.

How much fuel does AFM save?

EPA-test estimates published for GM's system are about 5.5–7.5%, with the benefit coming from light-load cruising. Keeping all cylinders active gives up part of that, depending on how you drive.

Do I need it if my engine already has an AFM delete?

No. An engine with the AFM hardware removed and a matching tune no longer deactivates cylinders, so the module has nothing to manage.

Is a tune or ECU reflash required?

No. The module plugs into the OBD-II port and does not rewrite the engine computer's software.

How do I tell which engine my Suzuki XL-7 has?

Check the 8th digit of the VIN or the RPO codes on the Service Parts Identification label (QR code on the door-pillar label on 2018 and newer GM models).
