2018-2024 Jeep Wrangler JL Auto Start Stop Eliminator | Plug & Play
Product function
Vehicle fitment: Listed for the 2018–2024 Jeep Wrangler. Every row in the fitment table is listed as a 100% fitment match. Trim is not split out, so any Jeep Wrangler in these years with factory Engine Stop-Start (ESS) and the pictured connector is covered.
The reason behind it: The reset comes from US fuel-economy testing rules. A latching system would be rated on the average of on and off tests, so automakers avoid it.
What does not change: Your Engine Stop-Start (ESS) button keeps working. No change is made to engine output, transmission behavior or charging.
Core function: Out of the factory, Engine Stop-Start (ESS) switches back on at every start. This plug-and-play memory harness stores the last setting you chose and applies it at the next start.
Before you order: Confirm the model year and that the vehicle was built with Engine Stop-Start (ESS). Make sure the connector matches the pictures. Aftermarket remote start, alarm or gateway devices on the same circuit need a check with support first.
Fitting: It plugs in line with the factory connector named in the instructions, using factory-style plugs on both ends, so nothing is cut or spliced. No coding or dealer visit is needed.
Shipping, returns, warranty: No-cost standard shipping in the contiguous United States (handling 1–2 business days, transit 3–4). Pre-approved returns are accepted for 45 days, with a 20% restocking fee and customer-paid return shipping. The part has a 3-year limited warranty. Fitment questions go to support@automotivebypass.com (Mon–Fri, 9–5 PST); include the VIN.

Description
This plug-and-play memory harness is for the 2018–2024 Jeep Wrangler. It stores the last stop-start setting you chose, so if you turned Engine Stop-Start (ESS) off on one drive, it stays off the next time you start the engine. It plugs in line with the factory connector named in the instructions, using factory-style plugs on both ends, so nothing is cut or spliced.
You can still use the original button at any time. Whatever you select last is what the module repeats on the next start. Take the module out and the vehicle behaves exactly as it did from the factory.
Covered model years
Listed applications (each row is a 100% fitment match for the factory connector this part uses):
- Jeep Wrangler: 2018–2024
Trim is not listed separately. Any trim in these years with factory stop-start and the pictured connector is covered.
What the factory system does
Each start of the Jeep Wrangler begins with Engine Stop-Start (ESS) enabled. The switch on the dash can disable it, but only until the key is cycled. This module records the switch position and repeats it after the restart, which is the entire job it does.
Before blaming the module
A dead or weak battery, a charging problem or an unrelated module fault will change how Engine Stop-Start (ESS) behaves with or without this part installed. Scan the vehicle for stored codes, test the battery and confirm the system works normally with the factory button before installation. That baseline makes any later issue easy to pin down.
What to expect
- It remembers the last stop-start setting through a key cycle.
- It leaves the factory button working, so you can turn stop-start back on whenever you want.
- It does not change engine power, transmission shifts, emissions calibration or fuel trims.
- It does not write anything to the vehicle's modules, and removing it restores the stock default.
Keep the battery healthy
Most stop-start systems watch battery condition closely through a sensor on the negative terminal. When the battery ages, the system quietly stops auto-stopping long before the battery fails to crank. Keeping the original battery type (AGM or EFB) and a clean, tight ground connection avoids a lot of confusion about why the system behaves differently from week to week.
When the engine will not auto-stop anyway
The factory system will skip an auto stop for many reasons: battery charge below its threshold, cold coolant, high climate-control load, a steep grade, the hood or driver door open, or a 4WD or tow mode on vehicles that have them. Those checks stay in control after this module is installed. It does not force stops and it does not bypass any of those safety inputs.
Where it connects
It plugs in line with the factory connector named in the instructions, using factory-style plugs on both ends, so nothing is cut or spliced. Work with the ignition off. Seat each connector until its lock engages, then secure the module with the supplied ties or tape so it cannot rattle or touch pedals, steering parts or anything hot. Start the vehicle, press the stop-start button once, then restart to confirm the choice is held.
Where owners notice the difference
Stop-start saves the most fuel in long idles, but plenty of drivers would rather keep the engine running. Common reasons: towing or hauling, where an engine restart under load is unwelcome; drive-thru lines and parking lots, where the engine cycles on and off every few feet; hot days, when the A/C compressor stops with the engine on many vehicles; and stop-and-go traffic where the restart delay is noticeable when pulling into a gap. On a daily driver, any of these can mean a button press at the start of nearly every drive.
Fitment check
- Model year and model match a row in the table above (2018–2024 Jeep Wrangler).
- Your Jeep Wrangler has the factory stop-start button. Base trims or engines without stop-start have nothing for the module to remember.
- The connector at your install point matches the one in the product photos.
- No aftermarket remote start, alarm or gateway bypass is wired into the same circuit. If one is, email support before ordering.
- The battery and charging system test good and no warning lights are on.
- If you are unsure, send your VIN to support@automotivebypass.com and we will confirm fitment.

Questions & Answers
Does the stop-start button still work after installation on the Jeep Wrangler?
Yes. The factory button works normally. The module simply stores whatever you chose last.
Does it change engine power or fuel trims?
No. It does not reprogram the engine or transmission computers. It only stores the stop-start button state.
Will Engine Stop-Start (ESS) come back on when I restart my Jeep Wrangler?
Not if you turned it off before shutting down. The module repeats your last selection at the next start. If you leave it on, it stays on.
Which Jeep Wrangler years does this fit?
The listed range is 2018–2024. Check the fitment table on this page against your exact model year.
What happens if I unplug it?
The vehicle returns to the factory default, with Engine Stop-Start (ESS) switched on at every start.
Is this the same part for every Jeep?
No. Connectors and the module that holds the stop-start state differ by platform, so this SKU is matched to the fitment rows on this page. Send the VIN to support if you are unsure.
Why does Engine Stop-Start (ESS) turn itself back on every time?
Automakers set stop-start to default to on at each start. Under EPA test rules, a system that stays off after shutdown is tested both on and off and the results are averaged, which lowers the rated fuel economy, so most systems reset at every key cycle. The module carries your last choice across that reset.
Why does my Jeep Wrangler sometimes not auto-stop even when the system is on?
The factory logic checks battery charge, engine temperature, climate load and other inputs. If any are outside range it keeps the engine running. The module does not affect those checks.
Will it fix a "stop-start unavailable" message?
No. That message usually points to the battery or a sensor. Diagnose and repair that first.
Does my Jeep Wrangler need the factory stop-start button for this to work?
Yes. The module works with the factory stop-start system and its button. A vehicle built without stop-start has no setting for it to remember.
Does it change how the battery is charged?
No. Charging is still managed by the vehicle. Stop-start vehicles normally use an AGM or EFB battery built for frequent restarts; replace it with the same type when it wears out.
Can I remove it later?
Yes. Unplug the module and reconnect the factory connector; the vehicle returns to its stock default.
How does it connect?
It plugs in line with the factory connector named in the instructions, using factory-style plugs on both ends, so nothing is cut or spliced.
