2023-2026 GMC Canyon Auto Start Stop Eliminator | Plug & Play
Product function
Applications: The 2023–2026 GMC Canyon. Every row in the fitment table is listed as a 100% fitment match. In these years the Canyon is a midsize pickup. The table does not break out trims. A GMC Canyon from these years with factory Auto Stop/Start and a matching connector fits.
How it connects: It plugs in line with the factory connector named in the instructions, using factory-style plugs on both ends, so nothing is cut or spliced. No software is changed.
Core function: Auto Stop/Start normally resets to on at every key cycle. The module keeps your previous selection, so one press is enough. Turning it back on is the same button press, and that choice is stored as well.
Background: Most systems are non-latching because of how the EPA rates fuel economy. A system that can stay off is tested both on and off and the results averaged, which lowers the label figure.
Check these points: Confirm the model year and that the vehicle was built with Auto Stop/Start. Make sure the connector matches the pictures. Vehicles with added remote-start or security modules should be confirmed with support.
Shipping, returns, warranty: No-cost standard shipping in the contiguous United States (handling 1–2 business days, transit 3–4). Pre-approved returns are accepted for 45 days, with a 20% restocking fee and customer-paid return shipping. The part has a 3-year limited warranty. Not sure? Email support@automotivebypass.com with your VIN, Monday to Friday 9–5 PST.

Description
Fits the 2023–2026 GMC Canyon. The plug-and-play memory harness remembers the position of the stop-start button between drives, so the engine no longer shuts off at the first red light after every restart unless you want it to. It plugs in line with the factory connector named in the instructions, using factory-style plugs on both ends, so nothing is cut or spliced.
The factory button stays in place and still works. Press it and the module stores the new choice. Unplug the module and the vehicle goes back to stock behavior.
Covered model years
Listed applications (each row is a 100% fitment match for the factory connector this part uses):
- GMC Canyon: 2023–2026
Trim is not listed separately. Any trim in these years with factory stop-start and the pictured connector is covered.
What the factory system does
On the GMC Canyon, Auto Stop/Start shuts the engine down at a stop and fires it back up as the brake is released. You can switch it off with the dash button, but the choice is not saved. The next ignition cycle brings the default back. The module keeps the choice you made instead.
Before blaming the module
A dead or weak battery, a charging problem or an unrelated module fault will change how Auto Stop/Start behaves with or without this part installed. Scan the vehicle for stored codes, test the battery and confirm the system works normally with the factory button before installation. That baseline makes any later issue easy to pin down.
A note on the battery
The module draws its power from the vehicle and does not change charging behavior. If your GMC Canyon sits for long periods, the same rules apply as without it: a maintainer helps, and a battery that tests weak should be replaced with the type specified for stop-start vehicles (usually AGM or EFB).
Where it connects
It plugs in line with the factory connector named in the instructions, using factory-style plugs on both ends, so nothing is cut or spliced. Work with the ignition off. Seat each connector until its lock engages, then secure the module with the supplied ties or tape so it cannot rattle or touch pedals, steering parts or anything hot. Start the vehicle, press the stop-start button once, then restart to confirm the choice is held.
Scope of the module
- Keeps the original switch fully functional.
- Stores the stop-start choice you made last and repeats it at the next start.
- No tune, no reflash, no change to horsepower or shift points.
- Fully reversible: unplug it and the vehicle returns to factory behavior.
Day-to-day use
Some owners only want stop-start off in certain seasons or on certain trips, such as towing a trailer or crawling through summer traffic with the A/C working hard. Because the module remembers whatever you chose last, it works both ways: leave the system off for a week, then switch it back on with the factory button and it stays on.
If stop-start is not engaging
Auto stop needs several conditions at once: a warm engine, enough battery charge, moderate cabin heating or cooling demand, and the vehicle fully stopped with the brake held. If any is missing, the engine keeps running. The module only remembers the button state; the factory controller still decides whether a stop is allowed.
Check before you order
- Model year and model match a row in the table above (2023–2026 GMC Canyon).
- Your GMC Canyon has the factory stop-start button. Base trims or engines without stop-start have nothing for the module to remember.
- The connector at your install point matches the one in the product photos.
- The battery and charging system test good and no warning lights are on.
- No aftermarket remote start, alarm or gateway bypass is wired into the same circuit. If one is, email support before ordering.
- If you are unsure, send your VIN to support@automotivebypass.com and we will confirm fitment.

Questions & Answers
Will Auto Stop/Start come back on when I restart my GMC Canyon?
Not if you turned it off before shutting down. The module repeats your last selection at the next start. If you leave it on, it stays on.
Will it fix a "stop-start unavailable" message?
No. That message usually points to the battery or a sensor. Diagnose and repair that first.
Why does my GMC Canyon sometimes not auto-stop even when the system is on?
The factory logic checks battery charge, engine temperature, climate load and other inputs. If any are outside range it keeps the engine running. The module does not affect those checks.
Which GMC Canyon years does this fit?
The listed range is 2023–2026. Check the fitment table on this page against your exact model year.
How does it connect?
It plugs in line with the factory connector named in the instructions, using factory-style plugs on both ends, so nothing is cut or spliced.
Does it change engine power or fuel trims?
No. It does not reprogram the engine or transmission computers. It only stores the stop-start button state.
Does the stop-start button still work after installation on the GMC Canyon?
Yes. The factory button works normally. The module simply stores whatever you chose last.
Is this the same part for every GMC?
No. Connectors and the module that holds the stop-start state differ by platform, so this SKU is matched to the fitment rows on this page. Send the VIN to support if you are unsure.
Why does Auto Stop/Start turn itself back on every time?
Automakers set stop-start to default to on at each start. Under EPA test rules, a system that stays off after shutdown is tested both on and off and the results are averaged, which lowers the rated fuel economy, so most systems reset at every key cycle. The module carries your last choice across that reset.
What happens if I unplug it?
The vehicle returns to the factory default, with Auto Stop/Start switched on at every start.
Does my GMC Canyon need the factory stop-start button for this to work?
Yes. The module works with the factory stop-start system and its button. A vehicle built without stop-start has no setting for it to remember.
Can I remove it later?
Yes. Unplug the module and reconnect the factory connector; the vehicle returns to its stock default.
Does it change how the battery is charged?
No. Charging is still managed by the vehicle. Stop-start vehicles normally use an AGM or EFB battery built for frequent restarts; replace it with the same type when it wears out.
