2025-2026 Subaru Forester Auto Start Stop Eliminator | Gateway Memory Harness
Product function
Fits: 2025–2026 Subaru Forester models. Every row in the fitment table is listed as a 100% fitment match. In these years the Forester is a compact SUV. Trims are not listed separately; what matters is a factory Auto Start Stop button and the connector shown in the photos.
How it connects: It plugs in at the gateway module connector, between the factory plug and the module, so the stored setting is applied where the vehicle network passes the stop-start request. No software is changed.
When stop-start is blocked: Stop-start vehicles use an AGM or EFB battery built for frequent restarts. If the battery is weak or the cabin needs heat or cooling, the vehicle skips auto-stop on its own.
Before you order: Find your model year in the table and confirm the factory Auto Start Stop button. Compare your connector with the product photos. Aftermarket remote start, alarm or gateway devices on the same circuit need a check with support first.
The job it does: Out of the factory, Auto Start Stop switches back on at every start. The module keeps your previous selection, so one press is enough. Turning it back on is the same button press, and that choice is stored as well.
Shipping, returns, warranty: No-cost standard shipping in the contiguous United States (handling 1–2 business days, transit 3–4). Pre-approved returns are accepted for 45 days, with a 20% restocking fee and customer-paid return shipping. The part has a 3-year limited warranty. Fitment questions go to support@automotivebypass.com (Mon–Fri, 9–5 PST); include the VIN.

Description
A gateway memory harness for the 2025–2026 Subaru Forester. Out of the factory, Auto Start Stop comes back on at every key cycle. This module remembers your last choice and sends it again at the next start. It plugs in at the gateway module connector, between the factory plug and the module, so the stored setting is applied where the vehicle network passes the stop-start request.
You can still use the original button at any time. Whatever you select last is what the module repeats on the next start. Take the module out and the vehicle behaves exactly as it did from the factory.
Which Subaru Forester models it fits
Listed applications (each row is a 100% fitment match for the factory connector this part uses):
- Subaru Forester: 2025–2026
The table does not separate trims; what matters is that the vehicle has factory stop-start and the connector shown in the photos.
What the factory system does
Each start of the Subaru Forester begins with Auto Start Stop enabled. The switch on the dash can disable it, but only until the key is cycled. This module records the switch position and repeats it after the restart, which is the entire job it does.
Why owners turn it off
Pressing the same button on every drive is what wears on owners. People who tow, plow, idle in pickup lines, creep through heavy traffic or simply want the engine running at a light end up making the same press dozens of times a week. On the Subaru Forester, the module turns that into a one-time choice you can still change whenever you want.
Battery notes for stop-start vehicles
The module draws its power from the vehicle and does not change charging behavior. If your Subaru Forester sits for long periods, the same rules apply as without it: a maintainer helps, and a battery that tests weak should be replaced with the type specified for stop-start vehicles (usually AGM or EFB).
Before blaming the module
If a "stop-start unavailable" or similar message appears, check the battery first. A battery that tests weak, a recent battery replacement that was not registered where the manufacturer requires it, or a fault in the battery current sensor can all disable the system. Clear up those issues before judging how the module works, because it cannot hold a setting the vehicle refuses to accept.
If stop-start is not engaging
A Subaru Forester that rarely auto-stops is often telling you something about the battery. Stop-start vehicles usually run an AGM or EFB battery, and the system is one of the first features to drop out as that battery ages. Cabin temperature requests, engine temperature and brake pressure also factor in. None of these checks are altered by the module.
Connecting it
It plugs in at the gateway module connector, between the factory plug and the module, so the stored setting is applied where the vehicle network passes the stop-start request. Because it is plug-in only, removal is the reverse: unplug the module and reconnect the factory connectors directly. Keep the original clips and trim fasteners if you remove a panel to reach the connector.
What to expect
- Leaves engine and transmission software untouched.
- Holds the stop-start button state between drives.
- Lets you re-enable the system with the factory button at any time.
- Leaves no permanent change after removal.
Quick fitment check
- Model year and model match a row in the table above (2025–2026 Subaru Forester).
- Your Subaru Forester has the factory stop-start button. Base trims or engines without stop-start have nothing for the module to remember.
- No aftermarket remote start, alarm or gateway bypass is wired into the same circuit. If one is, email support before ordering.
- The battery and charging system test good and no warning lights are on.
- The connector at your install point matches the one in the product photos.
- If you are unsure, send your VIN to support@automotivebypass.com and we will confirm fitment.

The part carries a 3-year limited warranty, and support@automotivebypass.com answers Monday to Friday, 9–5 Pacific.
Questions & Answers
How does it connect?
It plugs in at the gateway module connector, between the factory plug and the module, so the stored setting is applied where the vehicle network passes the stop-start request.
Does the stop-start button still work after installation on the Subaru Forester?
Yes. The factory button works normally. The module simply stores whatever you chose last.
Which Subaru Forester years does this fit?
The listed range is 2025–2026. Check the fitment table on this page against your exact model year.
Will Auto Start Stop come back on when I restart my Subaru Forester?
Not if you turned it off before shutting down. The module repeats your last selection at the next start. If you leave it on, it stays on.
Can I remove it later?
Yes. Unplug the module and reconnect the factory connector; the vehicle returns to its stock default.
Is this the same part for every Subaru?
No. Connectors and the module that holds the stop-start state differ by platform, so this SKU is matched to the fitment rows on this page. Send the VIN to support if you are unsure.
What happens if I unplug it?
The vehicle returns to the factory default, with Auto Start Stop switched on at every start.
Does it change how the battery is charged?
No. Charging is still managed by the vehicle. Stop-start vehicles normally use an AGM or EFB battery built for frequent restarts; replace it with the same type when it wears out.
Does my Subaru Forester need the factory stop-start button for this to work?
Yes. The module works with the factory stop-start system and its button. A vehicle built without stop-start has no setting for it to remember.
Why does Auto Start Stop turn itself back on every time?
Automakers set stop-start to default to on at each start. Under EPA test rules, a system that stays off after shutdown is tested both on and off and the results are averaged, which lowers the rated fuel economy, so most systems reset at every key cycle. The module carries your last choice across that reset.
Why does my Subaru Forester sometimes not auto-stop even when the system is on?
The factory logic checks battery charge, engine temperature, climate load and other inputs. If any are outside range it keeps the engine running. The module does not affect those checks.
Does it change engine power or fuel trims?
No. It does not reprogram the engine or transmission computers. It only stores the stop-start button state.
Will it fix a "stop-start unavailable" message?
No. That message usually points to the battery or a sensor. Diagnose and repair that first.
