Product function

Applications: Listed for the 2010–2016 GMC Terrain. All fitment rows are marked 100% fitment match. Setup steps are in the included instructions.

In short: These vehicles use direct TPMS, with a battery-powered sensor in each wheel. Missing sensors are treated as a system fault. This module stands in for those sensors and keeps the dash clear.

Checking pressure: Set pressures to the door-jamb placard value, not the sidewall maximum. Measure before driving, since warm tires read higher.

Keep in mind: It does not measure tire pressure, so slow leaks will not be reported. Use a gauge and the placard pressures, checked cold, every month. Receiver and wiring faults still need repair.

Before road use: TPMS has been required on new US light vehicles since September 1, 2007 under FMVSS No. 138. Shops are limited by 49 U.S.C. 30122, and state inspection rules vary.

Who uses it: A second wheel set without sensors: winter, track, off-road or show wheels. It avoids buying and programming a second set of sensors.

Order check: Match the model and year to a fitment row. Make sure the factory TPMS works on your sensor-equipped wheels.

Ordering terms: No-cost standard shipping in the contiguous United States (handling 1–2 business days, transit 3–4). Pre-approved returns are accepted for 45 days, with a 20% restocking fee and customer-paid return shipping. The part has a 3-year limited warranty. Send the VIN to support@automotivebypass.com if any row is unclear. Support answers weekdays, 9–5 Pacific.

Description

The GMC Terrain expects to hear from a sensor in each wheel. When the wheels on the vehicle have no sensors, the dash shows a TPMS fault. This emulator for the 2010–2016 GMC Terrain provides those signals so the warning stays off. It does not measure air pressure. Once it is in use, checking pressures with a gauge is your job, not the dashboard's.

Covered applications

Listed applications (all 100% fitment match):

  • GMC Terrain: 2010–2016

TPMS hardware can change within a model run (receiver version, sensor type), so match the exact model and year rather than the nameplate alone. Setup steps for your vehicle are in the included instructions.

How factory TPMS works on these vehicles

These vehicles use direct TPMS: a battery-powered sensor in each wheel sends pressure readings by radio, and a receiver in the vehicle matches each sensor by its ID. If a sensor goes quiet (dead battery, damaged sensor, or wheels without sensors), the system sets a fault. Federal standard FMVSS No. 138 requires this kind of warning on light vehicles built from September 1, 2007: a steady telltale when a tire is 25% or more below the placard pressure, and a malfunction indication that flashes for about a minute and then stays on when the system cannot work properly.

Typical uses

The usual situation is a second wheel set: dedicated winter wheels, track wheels or off-road wheels that were never fitted with sensors. Buying and programming a second set of sensors costs money and time, and without them the TPMS light stays on all season. An emulator covers that set while the original wheels and sensors sit in storage.

Diagnosis first

A light that will not clear usually means a mismatch: a different year or receiver version than the listing, or a setup step that did not complete. Re-check the fitment rows and instructions. If they match, scan for codes, because a receiver or module fault will keep the light on regardless of what is installed.

Seasonal wheel swaps

When you go back to the original sensor-equipped wheels, remove or disconnect the emulator as the instructions describe and let the vehicle recognize its sensors again. If the original sensors were rotated or replaced, the vehicle may need its normal TPMS relearn. Store the sensor wheels indoors and keep the valve caps on to keep moisture out of the valve stems.

Responsible use

A TPMS emulator removes your low-pressure warning, so manual checks have to take its place: cold pressure readings from the placard, a monthly check at minimum, and a look at tread and sidewalls. Inspection and road-use rules for TPMS vary by state, and federal law limits what shops may disable. Confirm the rules for your situation before use.

Using the placard pressure

Use the cold inflation pressure printed on the tire placard on the driver-side door jamb, not the maximum figure molded into the tire sidewall. "Cold" means the vehicle has been parked for about three hours or driven only a short distance. Check every tire including the spare, add air in small steps, and recheck. Doing this monthly covers most of what the TPMS warning would have told you.

Scope

  • Supplies the TPMS signals the listed vehicle expects so the warning stays off on wheels without sensors.
  • Does not read, store or display real tire pressures.
  • Does not repair a faulty receiver, body module or wiring.
  • Does not replace pressure checks with a gauge or tire inspections.

Fitment check

  • Your model and year match a row above (2010–2016 GMC Terrain).
  • The TPMS system works normally on your original sensor-equipped wheels.
  • No aftermarket TPMS receiver or display has been added.
  • You have a tire gauge and will check pressures manually.
  • Unsure? Email your VIN to support@automotivebypass.com.

Warranty and returns

We ship free within the contiguous United States (1–2 business days to dispatch, roughly 3–4 business days in transit). If it turns out to be the wrong part, request a return authorization within 45 days; returns carry a 20% restocking fee and return postage is on the buyer. Coverage is a 3-year limited warranty. Questions go to support@automotivebypass.com, weekdays 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. PST.

Questions & Answers
Why does my TPMS light flash and then stay on?

Under FMVSS No. 138, a light that flashes for about a minute and then stays on indicates a system malfunction, such as missing sensor signals, rather than low pressure.

Does it measure tire pressure?

No. It supplies the signals the system expects. Check pressures with a gauge.

Is it legal to use on the road?

TPMS is required equipment on new US light vehicles, and rules for owners and inspections vary by state. Check what applies before road use.

Which GMC Terrain years does this TPMS emulator fit?

The fitment table lists GMC Terrain 2010–2016. Match your exact model and year before ordering.

Will it fix a TPMS receiver or module fault?

No. Receiver, wiring and module faults need their own diagnosis and repair.

Why is TPMS required on US vehicles?

The TREAD Act of 2000 directed NHTSA to require tire-pressure warnings, which led to FMVSS No. 138. All new US light vehicles built from September 1, 2007 must have it.

Can a tire shop work on the vehicle with the emulator installed?

Tell the shop it is installed. Federal law restricts repair businesses from knowingly making TPMS inoperative, so some shops may ask you to remove it first.

Can I go back to the original sensors?

Yes. Remove the emulator, refit the sensor-equipped wheels and follow the vehicle's normal TPMS procedure.

Will it work on a vehicle that is not listed?

Do not assume it will. TPMS receivers and sensor setups vary by model and year, so match the fitment rows or send the VIN to support.

Do I still need to check tire pressure?

Yes. Check all tires cold at least once a month with a gauge, using the pressures on the driver-side door-jamb placard.
