2016-2018 Chevrolet Impala Auto Start Stop Eliminator
Product function
Made for: Listed for the 2016–2018 Chevrolet Impala. The fitment table shows a 100% fitment match for each year. In these years the Impala is a full-size sedan offered with 2.5L four-cylinder and 3.6L V6 engines, most of the driving it sees is daily commuting, ride-share duty and highway travel. The table does not break out trims. A Chevrolet Impala from these years with factory Auto Stop/Start and a matching connector fits.
Connection: It plugs in line with the factory connector named in the instructions. Both ends are factory-style plugs, so nothing is cut or spliced. The original connector is reused.
Confirm first: Match the year to a table row and make sure the Chevrolet Impala has Auto Stop/Start. Look at the connector in the photos before ordering. Aftermarket remote start, alarm or gateway devices on the same circuit need a check with support first.
The job it does: Auto Stop/Start normally resets to on at every key cycle. With the inline memory harness fitted, the state you left it in carries over to the next drive. Switch it off once and it stays off; switch it on and that is remembered too.
What it leaves alone: The original switch still does its job. Engine software, transmission logic and battery charging stay stock. The Chevrolet Impala can still refuse an automatic stop when conditions are not right.
Ordering terms: No-cost standard shipping in the contiguous United States (handling 1–2 business days, transit 3–4). Pre-approved returns are accepted for 45 days, with a 20% restocking fee and customer-paid return shipping. The part has a 3-year limited warranty. Not sure? Email support@automotivebypass.com with your VIN, Monday to Friday 9–5 PST.

Description
Built for the 2016–2018 Chevrolet Impala, this inline memory harness keeps Auto Stop/Start in whatever state you left it. Press the button once, and the setting carries over to the next start. It plugs in line with the factory connector named in the instructions. Both ends are factory-style plugs, so nothing is cut or spliced.
You can still use the original button at any time. Whatever you select last is what the module repeats on the next start. Take the module out and the vehicle behaves exactly as it did from the factory.
Vehicles and years covered
This part is listed for these vehicles, all marked 100% fitment match:
- Chevrolet Impala: 2016–2018
For reference, the Chevrolet Impala in these years is a full-size sedan offered with 2.5L four-cylinder and 3.6L V6 engines, most of the driving it sees is daily commuting, ride-share duty and highway travel. The listing is written around the tenth-generation (2014-2020) Impala. Trim levels are not split out in the table, so confirm that your vehicle has the stop-start button before ordering.
What the factory system does
Each start of the Chevrolet Impala begins with Auto Stop/Start enabled. The switch on the dash can disable it, but only until the key is cycled. This module records the switch position and repeats it after the restart, which is the entire job it does.
Battery and charging
If the stop-start indicator shows the system as unavailable, test the battery before anything else. On stop-start vehicles that is the most common cause. A replacement should match the original specification (AGM or EFB), and some manufacturers call for a battery monitor reset after the swap.
When the engine will not auto-stop anyway
Auto stop needs several conditions at once: a warm engine, enough battery charge, moderate cabin heating or cooling demand, and the vehicle fully stopped with the brake held. If any is missing, the engine keeps running. The module only remembers the button state; the factory controller still decides whether a stop is allowed.
Installing the inline memory harness
It plugs in line with the factory connector named in the instructions. Both ends are factory-style plugs, so nothing is cut or spliced. The instructions show the connector for this application; compare it with the product photos before starting. Turn the vehicle off, make the connection, fix the module in place, and test with two or three key cycles.
If something does not look right
If a "stop-start unavailable" or similar message appears, check the battery first. A battery that tests weak, a recent battery replacement that was not registered where the manufacturer requires it, or a fault in the battery current sensor can all disable the system. Clear up those issues before judging how the module works, because it cannot hold a setting the vehicle refuses to accept.
Typical reasons to keep it off
Stop-start saves the most fuel in long idles, but plenty of drivers would rather keep the engine running. Common reasons: towing or hauling, where an engine restart under load is unwelcome; drive-thru lines and parking lots, where the engine cycles on and off every few feet; hot days, when the A/C compressor stops with the engine on many vehicles; and stop-and-go traffic where the restart delay is noticeable when pulling into a gap. On a full-size sedan, any of these can mean a button press at the start of nearly every drive.
What changes after installation
- No tune, no reflash, no change to horsepower or shift points.
- Keeps the original switch fully functional.
- Stores the stop-start choice you made last and repeats it at the next start.
- Fully reversible: unplug it and the vehicle returns to factory behavior.
Quick fitment check
- Model year and model match a row in the table above (2016–2018 Chevrolet Impala).
- Your Chevrolet Impala has the factory stop-start button. Base trims or engines without stop-start have nothing for the module to remember.
- The battery and charging system test good and no warning lights are on.
- The connector at your install point matches the one in the product photos.
- No aftermarket remote start, alarm or gateway bypass is wired into the same circuit. If one is, email support before ordering.
- If you are unsure, send your VIN to support@automotivebypass.com and we will confirm fitment.

Questions & Answers
Can I remove it later?
Yes. Unplug the module and reconnect the factory connector; the vehicle returns to its stock default.
Does the stop-start button still work after installation on the Chevrolet Impala?
Yes. The factory button works normally. The module simply stores whatever you chose last.
Will Auto Stop/Start come back on when I restart my Chevrolet Impala?
Not if you turned it off before shutting down. The module repeats your last selection at the next start. If you leave it on, it stays on.
Which Chevrolet Impala years does this fit?
The listed range is 2016–2018. Check the fitment table on this page against your exact model year.
Does it change engine power or fuel trims?
No. It does not reprogram the engine or transmission computers. It only stores the stop-start button state.
Does my Chevrolet Impala need the factory stop-start button for this to work?
Yes. The module works with the factory stop-start system and its button. A vehicle built without stop-start has no setting for it to remember.
Will it fix a "stop-start unavailable" message?
No. That message usually points to the battery or a sensor. Diagnose and repair that first.
What happens if I unplug it?
The vehicle returns to the factory default, with Auto Stop/Start switched on at every start.
Does it change how the battery is charged?
No. Charging is still managed by the vehicle. Stop-start vehicles normally use an AGM or EFB battery built for frequent restarts; replace it with the same type when it wears out.
Why does Auto Stop/Start turn itself back on every time?
Automakers set stop-start to default to on at each start. Under EPA test rules, a system that stays off after shutdown is tested both on and off and the results are averaged, which lowers the rated fuel economy, so most systems reset at every key cycle. The module carries your last choice across that reset.
How does it connect?
It plugs in line with the factory connector named in the instructions. Both ends are factory-style plugs, so nothing is cut or spliced.
Is this the same part for every Chevrolet?
No. Connectors and the module that holds the stop-start state differ by platform, so this SKU is matched to the fitment rows on this page. Send the VIN to support if you are unsure.
Why does my Chevrolet Impala sometimes not auto-stop even when the system is on?
The factory logic checks battery charge, engine temperature, climate load and other inputs. If any are outside range it keeps the engine running. The module does not affect those checks.
