2018 Chevrolet Equinox Auto Start Stop Eliminator
Product function
Made for: 2018 Chevrolet Equinox models. All rows in the fitment table are marked 100% fitment match. In these years the Equinox is a compact crossover offered with 1.5L turbo four-cylinder engines, with a 2.0L turbo four-cylinder offered on earlier model years, most of the driving it sees is commuting, errands and light cargo duty. No trim split is given, so check for the factory Auto Stop/Start button and compare the connector photo.
The job it does: Each restart puts Auto Stop/Start back to its default of on. The module keeps your previous selection, so one press is enough. Turning it back on is the same button press, and that choice is stored as well.
Unchanged: Your Auto Stop/Start button keeps working. Engine power, fuel trims and transmission programming are not touched. Factory rules for when the engine may stop still apply.
Order check: Check the year against the fitment rows and look for the Auto Stop/Start button. Look at the connector in the photos before ordering.
Connection: It plugs in line with the factory connector named in the instructions. Both ends are factory-style plugs, so nothing is cut or spliced. Nothing is reprogrammed.
Shipping and warranty: Ships free within the lower 48 states: 1–2 business days to dispatch, 3–4 more on the road. A 45-day return window applies once a return is approved, less a 20% restocking fee and return shipping. 3-year limited warranty. Not sure? Email support@automotivebypass.com with your VIN, Monday to Friday 9–5 PST.

Description
Fits the 2018 Chevrolet Equinox. The inline memory harness remembers the position of the stop-start button between drives, so the engine no longer shuts off at the first red light after every restart unless you want it to. It plugs in line with the factory connector named in the instructions. Both ends are factory-style plugs, so nothing is cut or spliced.
You can still use the original button at any time. Whatever you select last is what the module repeats on the next start. Take the module out and the vehicle behaves exactly as it did from the factory.
Covered model years
Listed applications (each row is a 100% fitment match for the factory connector this part uses):
- Chevrolet Equinox: 2018
For reference, the Chevrolet Equinox in these years is a compact crossover offered with 1.5L turbo four-cylinder engines, with a 2.0L turbo four-cylinder offered on earlier model years, most of the driving it sees is commuting, errands and light cargo duty. The listing is written around the third-generation (2018-2024) Equinox. Trim is not listed separately. Any trim in these years with factory stop-start and the pictured connector is covered.
How factory stop-start works on the Chevrolet Equinox
Each start of the Chevrolet Equinox begins with Auto Stop/Start enabled. The switch on the dash can disable it, but only until the key is cycled. This module records the switch position and repeats it after the restart, which is the entire job it does.
What changes after installation
- It does not write anything to the vehicle's modules, and removing it restores the stock default.
- It remembers the last stop-start setting through a key cycle.
- It does not change engine power, transmission shifts, emissions calibration or fuel trims.
- It leaves the factory button working, so you can turn stop-start back on whenever you want.
Battery notes for stop-start vehicles
Most stop-start systems watch battery condition closely through a sensor on the negative terminal. When the battery ages, the system quietly stops auto-stopping long before the battery fails to crank. Keeping the original battery type (AGM or EFB) and a clean, tight ground connection avoids a lot of confusion about why the system behaves differently from week to week.
Installation and removal
It plugs in line with the factory connector named in the instructions. Both ends are factory-style plugs, so nothing is cut or spliced. Because it is plug-in only, removal is the reverse: unplug the module and reconnect the factory connectors directly. Keep the original clips and trim fasteners if you remove a panel to reach the connector.
Typical reasons to keep it off
Drivers usually switch stop-start off for comfort or habit. A restart at every stop is noticeable in a compact crossover, the climate system may run at reduced output while the engine is off, and quick moves into traffic feel slower when the engine has to fire first. If those are your reasons, you probably press the button on every drive now. With the module, you press it once.
Things that already block an auto stop
Even with Auto Stop/Start enabled, the engine control logic only stops the engine when conditions allow it. Typical blockers are a low battery state of charge, an engine that has not reached operating temperature, heavy heating or A/C demand, steering input, an open door or unlatched seatbelt, and some drive modes. If the system never seems to stop the engine, one of these is usually the reason, and the module does not change that logic.
Diagnostics first
A warning light that appears after installation usually means a connector is not fully seated. Switch the ignition off, reseat both ends until the locks click, and test again. If the light stays on, remove the module and confirm the vehicle is fault-free on its own before contacting support.
Check before you order
- Model year and model match a row in the table above (2018 Chevrolet Equinox).
- Your Chevrolet Equinox has the factory stop-start button. Base trims or engines without stop-start have nothing for the module to remember.
- The battery and charging system test good and no warning lights are on.
- No aftermarket remote start, alarm or gateway bypass is wired into the same circuit. If one is, email support before ordering.
- The connector at your install point matches the one in the product photos.
- If you are unsure, send your VIN to support@automotivebypass.com and we will confirm fitment.
Shipping and support
We ship free within the contiguous United States (1–2 business days to dispatch, roughly 3–4 business days in transit). If it turns out to be the wrong part, request a return authorization within 45 days; returns carry a 20% restocking fee and return postage is on the buyer. Coverage is a 3-year limited warranty. Questions go to support@automotivebypass.com, weekdays 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. PST.
Questions & Answers
Will Auto Stop/Start come back on when I restart my Chevrolet Equinox?
Not if you turned it off before shutting down. The module repeats your last selection at the next start. If you leave it on, it stays on.
Does the stop-start button still work after installation on the Chevrolet Equinox?
Yes. The factory button works normally. The module simply stores whatever you chose last.
Can I remove it later?
Yes. Unplug the module and reconnect the factory connector; the vehicle returns to its stock default.
Which Chevrolet Equinox years does this fit?
The listed range is 2018. Check the fitment table on this page against your exact model year.
Does my Chevrolet Equinox need the factory stop-start button for this to work?
Yes. The module works with the factory stop-start system and its button. A vehicle built without stop-start has no setting for it to remember.
What happens if I unplug it?
The vehicle returns to the factory default, with Auto Stop/Start switched on at every start.
Is this the same part for every Chevrolet?
No. Connectors and the module that holds the stop-start state differ by platform, so this SKU is matched to the fitment rows on this page. Send the VIN to support if you are unsure.
Does it change engine power or fuel trims?
No. It does not reprogram the engine or transmission computers. It only stores the stop-start button state.
How does it connect?
It plugs in line with the factory connector named in the instructions. Both ends are factory-style plugs, so nothing is cut or spliced.
Why does Auto Stop/Start turn itself back on every time?
Automakers set stop-start to default to on at each start. Under EPA test rules, a system that stays off after shutdown is tested both on and off and the results are averaged, which lowers the rated fuel economy, so most systems reset at every key cycle. The module carries your last choice across that reset.
Does it change how the battery is charged?
No. Charging is still managed by the vehicle. Stop-start vehicles normally use an AGM or EFB battery built for frequent restarts; replace it with the same type when it wears out.
Why does my Chevrolet Equinox sometimes not auto-stop even when the system is on?
The factory logic checks battery charge, engine temperature, climate load and other inputs. If any are outside range it keeps the engine running. The module does not affect those checks.
Will it fix a "stop-start unavailable" message?
No. That message usually points to the battery or a sensor. Diagnose and repair that first.
