Chevrolet Camaro 2010-2018 6.2L V8 / 2016-2018 3.6L V6 AFM/DFM Disabler
Product function
Applications: Listed for the 2010–2018 Chevrolet Camaro (3.6L V6, 6.2L V8). Every row in the fitment table is listed as a 100% fitment match. AFM engine codes that match these years and sizes: L99, LT1.
What it does not change: Peak output is unchanged. Existing lifter, misfire or oil-consumption faults need a mechanical fix. Expect a small fuel economy change at light cruise, where AFM's 5.5–7.5% estimated benefit comes from.
Before you order: Read the engine code from the 8th VIN digit or the RPO list on the Service Parts Identification label. Non-AFM engines such as the LH9, LY6, L96, L92 and L9H are not candidates.
Oil and care: Cylinder deactivation on these engines is hydraulic. Correct oil grade, level and change intervals still matter. Start with a healthy engine: clear up misfire or lifter codes first.
In short: On these engines AFM idles cylinders 1, 7, 6 and 4 on the V8 during light cruising. This module stops the switch into reduced-cylinder mode.
Installation: It plugs into the OBD-II port under the dash. No wiring, splicing or reflash is involved. Take it out when a shop needs the port.
Shipping and warranty: Ships free within the lower 48 states: 1–2 business days to dispatch, 3–4 more on the road. A 45-day return window applies once a return is approved, less a 20% restocking fee and return shipping. 3-year limited warranty. Send the VIN to support@automotivebypass.com if any row is unclear. Support answers weekdays, 9–5 Pacific.

Description
This AFM/DFM disabler plugs into the OBD-II port of the 2010–2018 Chevrolet Camaro. Its job is to keep the engine running on all cylinders instead of dropping into the reduced-cylinder mode that GM's Active Fuel Management uses at light load. Installation is plugging it in. Nothing is spliced, flashed or removed from the engine, and the factory system resumes as soon as the module is unplugged.
What it fits
Each row below is listed as a 100% fitment match:
- 2010–2015 Chevrolet Camaro: 6.2L V8
- 2016–2018 Chevrolet Camaro: 6.2L V8 / 3.6L V6
AFM-equipped engine codes that GM used in these years and sizes:
- L99 (6.2L, 2010–2015, VIN 8th digit "J")
- LT1 (6.2L, 2016–2018, VIN 8th digit "7")
An engine code that is not listed here does not automatically rule the vehicle out, but send us the VIN first so we can check.
What AFM does on these engines
When cruising at steady speed, an AFM V8 drops to four cylinders. Cylinders 1, 7, 6 and 4 have two-stage lifters that the engine computer can switch with oil pressure; once switched, those valves stay shut and the injectors stop firing. The switch back to eight cylinders happens whenever more torque is needed.
Why owners disable it
A Chevrolet Camaro with AFM switches modes many times on a typical drive. Some owners never notice; others feel it every time. If you are in the second group, or you tow and want steady behavior, keeping all cylinders active is the simplest answer. Fuel use at light cruise will usually rise a little, since that is where AFM saves fuel.
After installation
Expect steadier behavior at part throttle and no change at wide-open throttle. Towing and hill climbing were already mostly done on all cylinders, so the biggest change is during relaxed cruising. Average fuel economy may drop slightly depending on how much of your driving is light-load highway time.
Check the engine first
Keep the oil at the correct level and grade before and after installation. AFM lifters and their solenoids are oil-pressure operated, so an engine that is low on oil or running the wrong grade should be sorted out first. The module stops the switching, but it is not a substitute for maintenance or for repairing an engine that already has a fault.
Keep up with oil changes
AFM lifters and the solenoids that control them run on engine oil pressure. Keeping the oil at the right level, using the grade GM specifies on the oil filler cap or in the owner's manual, and changing it on schedule matters whether or not AFM is active. The module changes when cylinders deactivate; it does not change the oiling system.
Scan tools and inspections
Leave it in the port for everyday driving. When the vehicle goes in for service or an emissions check, remove it so the shop has normal access to the diagnostic connector, then reinstall it.
Other ways owners disable AFM
There are three common ways to stop cylinder deactivation on GM engines: a plug-in module like this one, a custom tune that turns AFM off in the engine computer, or a mechanical delete that replaces the AFM lifters and related hardware and then needs a tune to match. The module is the only one of the three that needs no tools and no engine-computer changes, and it is the only one you can undo by unplugging it. It does not replace failed lifters; if hardware is already damaged, the repair comes first.
How to confirm your engine code
- Your model year, model and engine match a row in the table (2010–2018 Chevrolet Camaro).
- Look up the engine RPO code. Older GM vehicles print it on the Service Parts Identification sticker, often in the glovebox; 2018 and newer GM models carry it in a QR code on the driver-side B-pillar label. You can also read the 8th digit of the VIN, which is the engine code.
- The engine runs cleanly with no stored misfire or AFM codes.
- If the vehicle has an engine swap, an aftermarket tune or a replacement engine computer, contact support first.
- Questions: support@automotivebypass.com with your VIN.
Warranty and returns
We ship free within the contiguous United States (1–2 business days to dispatch, roughly 3–4 business days in transit). If it turns out to be the wrong part, request a return authorization within 45 days; returns carry a 20% restocking fee and return postage is on the buyer. Coverage is a 3-year limited warranty. Questions go to support@automotivebypass.com, weekdays 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. PST.
Questions & Answers
How do I tell which engine my Chevrolet Camaro has?
Check the 8th digit of the VIN or the RPO codes on the Service Parts Identification label (QR code on the door-pillar label on 2018 and newer GM models).
Does it plug into the OBD-II port on the Chevrolet Camaro?
Yes. It plugs into the OBD-II port under the dash. There is no wiring or splicing.
Which Chevrolet Camaro years and engines does it fit?
The fitment table lists Chevrolet Camaro 2010–2018 with 3.6L V6, 6.2L V8. Match your exact year and engine to a row before ordering.
Will it fix lifter noise or misfires?
No. Those are mechanical or electrical faults that need their own diagnosis and repair.
Do I need it if my engine already has an AFM delete?
No. An engine with the AFM hardware removed and a matching tune no longer deactivates cylinders, so the module has nothing to manage.
How much fuel does AFM save?
EPA-test estimates published for GM's system are about 5.5–7.5%, with the benefit coming from light-load cruising. Keeping all cylinders active gives up part of that, depending on how you drive.
Do I need to remove it for an emissions test or scan tool?
Yes. It uses the diagnostic port, so unplug it while the port is needed and plug it back in afterwards.
Is a tune or ECU reflash required?
No. The module plugs into the OBD-II port and does not rewrite the engine computer's software.
Will it add horsepower?
No. It keeps all cylinders active; it does not change the engine tune.
Does it change anything when towing?
Under heavy load, such as towing up a grade, AFM already keeps all cylinders running. The difference shows up during lighter cruising between climbs, where the engine no longer drops cylinders.
Does it work on 2019 and newer trucks with Dynamic Fuel Management?
Only the vehicles and engines in this listing's fitment table are covered. DFM on the 2019-on Silverado 1500 and Sierra 1500 (5.3L L84, 6.2L L87) is a different system, so do not assume coverage outside the table.
Can I go back to factory AFM?
Yes. Unplug the module and the factory cylinder-deactivation strategy works again.
