Chevrolet Corvette 2012-2019 6.2L V8 / Traverse 2018 3.6L V6 AFM/DFM Disabler
Product function
Applications: The 2012–2019 Chevrolet Corvette and 2018 Chevrolet Traverse (3.6L V6, 6.2L V8). Each listed year carries a 100% fitment match. AFM engine codes that match these years and sizes: LT1.
If you change your mind: Unplug the module and factory AFM works again.
Fitting: Installation is plugging it into the OBD-II diagnostic port. Nothing is cut and the engine software is not rewritten. Unplug it for inspections or diagnostics, then refit it.
Before you order: Read the engine code from the 8th VIN digit or the RPO list on the Service Parts Identification label. Engines built without AFM (LH9, LY6, L96, L92, L9H) have nothing for it to manage.
In short: At steady cruise, AFM drops cylinders 1, 7, 6 and 4 on the V8. Plugged in, it keeps the engine in full-cylinder operation. Mode changes, and the vibration that can come with them, stop.
Limits: No power gain: full-throttle operation already uses every cylinder. Existing lifter, misfire or oil-consumption faults need a mechanical fix. Expect a small fuel economy change at light cruise, where AFM's 5.5–7.5% estimated benefit comes from.
Ordering terms: No-cost standard shipping in the contiguous United States (handling 1–2 business days, transit 3–4). Pre-approved returns are accepted for 45 days, with a 20% restocking fee and customer-paid return shipping. The part has a 3-year limited warranty. Send the VIN to support@automotivebypass.com if any row is unclear. Support answers weekdays, 9–5 Pacific.

Description
A plug-in cylinder-deactivation disabler for the 2012–2019 Chevrolet Corvette and 2018 Chevrolet Traverse. It goes into the OBD-II diagnostic port and keeps the factory Active Fuel Management system from engaging, so the engine runs on every cylinder all the time. There is no tune involved and nothing inside the engine is changed. Pull it out of the port and the factory strategy returns.
What it fits
Listed applications, each a 100% fitment match:
- 2012–2019 Chevrolet Corvette: 6.2L V8
- 2018 Chevrolet Traverse: 3.6L V6
AFM-equipped engine codes that GM used in these years and sizes:
- LT1 (6.2L, 2014–2019, VIN 8th digit "7")
If your engine code is not in this list, email the VIN to support before ordering so we can confirm the application.
The factory system in brief
GM's Active Fuel Management turns a V8 into a V4 at light load by deactivating cylinders 1, 7, 6 and 4. Solenoids route oil pressure to the lifters on those cylinders, which collapse and stop opening the valves. Fuel to those cylinders is cut at the same time. Press the throttle harder and the system brings all eight back.
Plug-in module vs. a mechanical AFM delete
There are three common ways to stop cylinder deactivation on GM engines: a plug-in module like this one, a custom tune that turns AFM off in the engine computer, or a mechanical delete that replaces the AFM lifters and related hardware and then needs a tune to match. The module is the only one of the three that needs no tools and no engine-computer changes, and it is the only one you can undo by unplugging it. It does not replace failed lifters; if hardware is already damaged, the repair comes first.
What to expect on the road
The difference shows up in light-load driving: steady highway speeds, gentle acceleration and coasting down small grades. Those are the moments when AFM used to drop cylinders. With the module in, engine behavior there should feel the same as under heavier throttle. Full-throttle performance does not change, because AFM was never active at full throttle anyway.
Maintenance still matters
AFM lifters and the solenoids that control them run on engine oil pressure. Keeping the oil at the right level, using the grade GM specifies on the oil filler cap or in the owner's manual, and changing it on schedule matters whether or not AFM is active. The module changes when cylinders deactivate; it does not change the oiling system.
Why people turn AFM off
The usual complaints are a drone or shudder in reduced-cylinder mode, a slight hesitation when the engine switches back, and a general wish to keep the valvetrain doing the same thing all the time. With the module installed, the engine stays in full-cylinder mode, so those transitions stop. Expect light-load fuel economy to be closer to an engine without AFM.
Living with it
Leave it in the port for everyday driving. When the vehicle goes in for service or an emissions check, remove it so the shop has normal access to the diagnostic connector, then reinstall it.
Check the engine first
This module prevents mode switching. It does not repair anything. If the engine already has a ticking lifter, misfire codes, low oil pressure or high oil consumption, have it diagnosed before relying on the module. Those symptoms need a mechanical repair, and keeping AFM off will not reverse damage that has already happened.
Confirm your engine
- Your model year, model and engine match a row in the table (2012–2019 Chevrolet Corvette and 2018 Chevrolet Traverse).
- The quickest checks are the 8th digit of your VIN, which identifies the engine, and the RPO list on the Service Parts Identification label (glovebox or trunk on most pre-2018 GM models, QR code on the driver-door pillar label from 2018).
- No check-engine light is on, and oil level and pressure are normal.
- Engine swaps, custom tunes and replaced ECUs need a fitment check from support before ordering.
- Questions: support@automotivebypass.com with your VIN.
Warranty and returns
Shipping is free to the contiguous US. Orders leave in 1–2 business days and usually arrive 3–4 business days later. Returns are accepted within 45 days with pre-approval; a 20% restocking fee applies and the buyer covers return shipping. The part carries a 3-year limited warranty, and support@automotivebypass.com answers Monday to Friday, 9–5 Pacific.
Questions & Answers
Does it plug into the OBD-II port on the Chevrolet Corvette and Chevrolet Traverse?
Yes. It plugs into the OBD-II port under the dash. There is no wiring or splicing.
Which Chevrolet Corvette and Chevrolet Traverse years and engines does it fit?
The fitment table lists Chevrolet Corvette 2012–2019; Chevrolet Traverse 2018 with 3.6L V6, 6.2L V8. Match your exact year and engine to a row before ordering.
Can I go back to factory AFM?
Yes. Unplug the module and the factory cylinder-deactivation strategy works again.
How do I tell which engine my Chevrolet Corvette and Chevrolet Traverse has?
Check the 8th digit of the VIN or the RPO codes on the Service Parts Identification label (QR code on the door-pillar label on 2018 and newer GM models).
Do I need to remove it for an emissions test or scan tool?
Yes. It uses the diagnostic port, so unplug it while the port is needed and plug it back in afterwards.
How much fuel does AFM save?
EPA-test estimates published for GM's system are about 5.5–7.5%, with the benefit coming from light-load cruising. Keeping all cylinders active gives up part of that, depending on how you drive.
Do I need it if my engine already has an AFM delete?
No. An engine with the AFM hardware removed and a matching tune no longer deactivates cylinders, so the module has nothing to manage.
Does it work on 2019 and newer trucks with Dynamic Fuel Management?
Only the vehicles and engines in this listing's fitment table are covered. DFM on the 2019-on Silverado 1500 and Sierra 1500 (5.3L L84, 6.2L L87) is a different system, so do not assume coverage outside the table.
Will it fix lifter noise or misfires?
No. Those are mechanical or electrical faults that need their own diagnosis and repair.
Will it add horsepower?
No. It keeps all cylinders active; it does not change the engine tune.
Does it change anything when towing?
Under heavy load, such as towing up a grade, AFM already keeps all cylinders running. The difference shows up during lighter cruising between climbs, where the engine no longer drops cylinders.
Is a tune or ECU reflash required?
No. The module plugs into the OBD-II port and does not rewrite the engine computer's software.
