2018-2021 Ford Expedition Auto Start Stop Eliminator
Product function
Vehicle fitment: 2018–2021 Ford Expedition models. Every row in the fitment table is listed as a 100% fitment match. In these years the Expedition is a full-size SUV. Trims are not listed separately; what matters is a factory Auto Start-Stop button and the connector shown in the photos.
How it connects: It plugs in line with the factory connector named in the instructions. Both ends are factory-style plugs, so nothing is cut or spliced. The original connector is reused.
Core function: Out of the factory, Auto Start-Stop switches back on at every start. With the inline memory harness fitted, the state you left it in carries over to the next drive.
Reversibility: Unplug the module and reconnect the factory plug to return to the original behavior. Keep the instructions in case you need to remove it before a service visit.
Order check: Match the year to a table row and make sure the Ford Expedition has Auto Start-Stop. Compare your connector with the product photos.
Factory conditions: These vehicles carry an AGM or enhanced flooded battery for the extra cycling. A low charge, a cold engine or high climate demand can block an automatic stop regardless of the module. Use the factory battery type when replacing it.
Ordering terms: No-cost standard shipping in the contiguous United States (handling 1–2 business days, transit 3–4). Pre-approved returns are accepted for 45 days, with a 20% restocking fee and customer-paid return shipping. The part has a 3-year limited warranty. Not sure? Email support@automotivebypass.com with your VIN, Monday to Friday 9–5 PST.

Description
This inline memory harness is for the 2018–2021 Ford Expedition. It stores the last stop-start setting you chose, so if you turned Auto Start-Stop off on one drive, it stays off the next time you start the engine. It plugs in line with the factory connector named in the instructions. Both ends are factory-style plugs, so nothing is cut or spliced.
It does not delete the feature. Turning stop-start back on is the same button press as before, and the module will remember that too. Removing it returns the vehicle to its original default.
Vehicles and years covered
The fitment table for this SKU lists the following, each marked as a 100% fitment match:
- Ford Expedition: 2018–2021
The listing is written around the fourth-generation (2018-up) Expedition. The table does not separate trims; what matters is that the vehicle has factory stop-start and the connector shown in the photos.
Why the button resets
Each start of the Ford Expedition begins with Auto Start-Stop enabled. The switch on the dash can disable it, but only until the key is cycled. This module records the switch position and repeats it after the restart, which is the entire job it does.
Day-to-day use
Stop-start saves the most fuel in long idles, but plenty of drivers would rather keep the engine running. Common reasons: towing or hauling, where an engine restart under load is unwelcome; drive-thru lines and parking lots, where the engine cycles on and off every few feet; hot days, when the A/C compressor stops with the engine on many vehicles; and stop-and-go traffic where the restart delay is noticeable when pulling into a gap. On a full-size SUV, any of these can mean a button press at the start of nearly every drive.
Keep the battery healthy
Most stop-start systems watch battery condition closely through a sensor on the negative terminal. When the battery ages, the system quietly stops auto-stopping long before the battery fails to crank. Keeping the original battery type (AGM or EFB) and a clean, tight ground connection avoids a lot of confusion about why the system behaves differently from week to week.
What the module does and does not do
- Comes out in the same way it went in, with nothing cut.
- Carries your stop-start choice over to the next drive.
- Does not disable warning lights or diagnostic functions.
- Fuel use changes only the way it would if you pressed the off button yourself.
When the engine will not auto-stop anyway
Auto stop needs several conditions at once: a warm engine, enough battery charge, moderate cabin heating or cooling demand, and the vehicle fully stopped with the brake held. If any is missing, the engine keeps running. The module only remembers the button state; the factory controller still decides whether a stop is allowed.
Installation and removal
It plugs in line with the factory connector named in the instructions. Both ends are factory-style plugs, so nothing is cut or spliced. Because it is plug-in only, removal is the reverse: unplug the module and reconnect the factory connectors directly. Keep the original clips and trim fasteners if you remove a panel to reach the connector.
Before blaming the module
A warning light that appears after installation usually means a connector is not fully seated. Switch the ignition off, reseat both ends until the locks click, and test again. If the light stays on, remove the module and confirm the vehicle is fault-free on its own before contacting support.
Fitment check
- Model year and model match a row in the table above (2018–2021 Ford Expedition).
- Your Ford Expedition has the factory stop-start button. Base trims or engines without stop-start have nothing for the module to remember.
- The connector at your install point matches the one in the product photos.
- The battery and charging system test good and no warning lights are on.
- No aftermarket remote start, alarm or gateway bypass is wired into the same circuit. If one is, email support before ordering.
- If you are unsure, send your VIN to support@automotivebypass.com and we will confirm fitment.
Shipping and support
Standard shipping inside the lower 48 states costs nothing; allow 1–2 business days of handling plus 3–4 in transit. Returns need approval first and must be requested within 45 days. Approved returns are subject to a 20% restocking fee, with return shipping paid by the customer. A 3-year limited warranty applies. Email support@automotivebypass.com (Mon–Fri, 9–5 PST) with your VIN if you want a fitment check.
Questions & Answers
Does the stop-start button still work after installation on the Ford Expedition?
Yes. The factory button works normally. The module simply stores whatever you chose last.
How does it connect?
It plugs in line with the factory connector named in the instructions. Both ends are factory-style plugs, so nothing is cut or spliced.
Will Auto Start-Stop come back on when I restart my Ford Expedition?
Not if you turned it off before shutting down. The module repeats your last selection at the next start. If you leave it on, it stays on.
Which Ford Expedition years does this fit?
The listed range is 2018–2021. Check the fitment table on this page against your exact model year.
Does it change how the battery is charged?
No. Charging is still managed by the vehicle. Stop-start vehicles normally use an AGM or EFB battery built for frequent restarts; replace it with the same type when it wears out.
Does my Ford Expedition need the factory stop-start button for this to work?
Yes. The module works with the factory stop-start system and its button. A vehicle built without stop-start has no setting for it to remember.
Why does my Ford Expedition sometimes not auto-stop even when the system is on?
The factory logic checks battery charge, engine temperature, climate load and other inputs. If any are outside range it keeps the engine running. The module does not affect those checks.
Is this the same part for every Ford?
No. Connectors and the module that holds the stop-start state differ by platform, so this SKU is matched to the fitment rows on this page. Send the VIN to support if you are unsure.
Will it fix a "stop-start unavailable" message?
No. That message usually points to the battery or a sensor. Diagnose and repair that first.
What happens if I unplug it?
The vehicle returns to the factory default, with Auto Start-Stop switched on at every start.
Does it change engine power or fuel trims?
No. It does not reprogram the engine or transmission computers. It only stores the stop-start button state.
Can I remove it later?
Yes. Unplug the module and reconnect the factory connector; the vehicle returns to its stock default.
Why does Auto Start-Stop turn itself back on every time?
Automakers set stop-start to default to on at each start. Under EPA test rules, a system that stays off after shutdown is tested both on and off and the results are averaged, which lowers the rated fuel economy, so most systems reset at every key cycle. The module carries your last choice across that reset.
