2018-2024 Audi SQ5 Auto Start Stop Eliminator | Plug & Play
Product function
Vehicle fitment: 2018–2024 Audi SQ5. Every row in the fitment table is listed as a 100% fitment match. Trims are not listed separately; what matters is a factory start-stop system button and the connector shown in the photos.
Core function: From the factory, the Audi SQ5 turns start-stop system on again each time the engine starts. The module keeps your previous selection, so one press is enough.
Reversibility: Take it out and the Audi SQ5 behaves as it did from the factory. Nothing has to be repaired afterwards because nothing was cut.
How it connects: It plugs in line with the factory connector named in the instructions, using factory-style plugs on both ends, so nothing is cut or spliced. Nothing is reprogrammed.
When stop-start is blocked: The factory battery is an AGM or EFB type designed for stop-start duty. If the battery is weak or the cabin needs heat or cooling, the vehicle skips auto-stop on its own. Use the factory battery type when replacing it.
Before you order: Confirm the model year and that the vehicle was built with start-stop system. Compare your connector with the product photos. If other electronics have been added on that circuit, email support before ordering.
Shipping and warranty: No-cost standard shipping in the contiguous United States (handling 1–2 business days, transit 3–4). Pre-approved returns are accepted for 45 days, with a 20% restocking fee and customer-paid return shipping. The part has a 3-year limited warranty. Send the VIN to support@automotivebypass.com if any row is unclear. Support answers weekdays, 9–5 Pacific.

Description
A plug-and-play memory harness for the 2018–2024 Audi SQ5. Out of the factory, start-stop system comes back on at every key cycle. This module remembers your last choice and sends it again at the next start. It plugs in line with the factory connector named in the instructions, using factory-style plugs on both ends, so nothing is cut or spliced.
The factory button stays in place and still works. Press it and the module stores the new choice. Unplug the module and the vehicle goes back to stock behavior.
Fitment
Listed applications (each row is a 100% fitment match for the factory connector this part uses):
- Audi SQ5: 2018–2024
Trim is not listed separately. Any trim in these years with factory stop-start and the pictured connector is covered.
How start-stop system behaves from the factory
start-stop system is designed to default to on. The off switch (usually marked with an "A" inside a circular arrow) cancels it for the current drive. At the next start the system is armed again. That reset is intentional on the manufacturer's side, and it is the only behavior this module changes.
Day-to-day use
Stop-start saves the most fuel in long idles, but plenty of drivers would rather keep the engine running. Common reasons: towing or hauling, where an engine restart under load is unwelcome; drive-thru lines and parking lots, where the engine cycles on and off every few feet; hot days, when the A/C compressor stops with the engine on many vehicles; and stop-and-go traffic where the restart delay is noticeable when pulling into a gap. On a daily driver, any of these can mean a button press at the start of nearly every drive.
Connecting it
It plugs in line with the factory connector named in the instructions, using factory-style plugs on both ends, so nothing is cut or spliced. Work with the ignition off. Seat each connector until its lock engages, then secure the module with the supplied ties or tape so it cannot rattle or touch pedals, steering parts or anything hot. Start the vehicle, press the stop-start button once, then restart to confirm the choice is held.
Diagnostics first
A warning light that appears after installation usually means a connector is not fully seated. Switch the ignition off, reseat both ends until the locks click, and test again. If the light stays on, remove the module and confirm the vehicle is fault-free on its own before contacting support.
What the module does and does not do
- Leaves no permanent change after removal.
- Lets you re-enable the system with the factory button at any time.
- Leaves engine and transmission software untouched.
- Holds the stop-start button state between drives.
If stop-start is not engaging
Auto stop needs several conditions at once: a warm engine, enough battery charge, moderate cabin heating or cooling demand, and the vehicle fully stopped with the brake held. If any is missing, the engine keeps running. The module only remembers the button state; the factory controller still decides whether a stop is allowed.
Keep the battery healthy
Most stop-start systems watch battery condition closely through a sensor on the negative terminal. When the battery ages, the system quietly stops auto-stopping long before the battery fails to crank. Keeping the original battery type (AGM or EFB) and a clean, tight ground connection avoids a lot of confusion about why the system behaves differently from week to week.
Confirm these points
- Model year and model match a row in the table above (2018–2024 Audi SQ5).
- Your Audi SQ5 has the factory stop-start button. Base trims or engines without stop-start have nothing for the module to remember.
- The battery and charging system test good and no warning lights are on.
- No aftermarket remote start, alarm or gateway bypass is wired into the same circuit. If one is, email support before ordering.
- The connector at your install point matches the one in the product photos.
- If you are unsure, send your VIN to support@automotivebypass.com and we will confirm fitment.
Shipping and support
Shipping is free to the contiguous US. Orders leave in 1–2 business days and usually arrive 3–4 business days later. Returns are accepted within 45 days with pre-approval; a 20% restocking fee applies and the buyer covers return shipping. The part carries a 3-year limited warranty, and support@automotivebypass.com answers Monday to Friday, 9–5 Pacific.
Questions & Answers
Which Audi SQ5 years does this fit?
The listed range is 2018–2024. Check the fitment table on this page against your exact model year.
Will start-stop system come back on when I restart my Audi SQ5?
Not if you turned it off before shutting down. The module repeats your last selection at the next start. If you leave it on, it stays on.
Does the stop-start button still work after installation on the Audi SQ5?
Yes. The factory button works normally. The module simply stores whatever you chose last.
Will it fix a "stop-start unavailable" message?
No. That message usually points to the battery or a sensor. Diagnose and repair that first.
Is this the same part for every Audi?
No. Connectors and the module that holds the stop-start state differ by platform, so this SKU is matched to the fitment rows on this page. Send the VIN to support if you are unsure.
What happens if I unplug it?
The vehicle returns to the factory default, with start-stop system switched on at every start.
Does it change how the battery is charged?
No. Charging is still managed by the vehicle. Stop-start vehicles normally use an AGM or EFB battery built for frequent restarts; replace it with the same type when it wears out.
Why does start-stop system turn itself back on every time?
Automakers set stop-start to default to on at each start. Under EPA test rules, a system that stays off after shutdown is tested both on and off and the results are averaged, which lowers the rated fuel economy, so most systems reset at every key cycle. The module carries your last choice across that reset.
Does my Audi SQ5 need the factory stop-start button for this to work?
Yes. The module works with the factory stop-start system and its button. A vehicle built without stop-start has no setting for it to remember.
Why does my Audi SQ5 sometimes not auto-stop even when the system is on?
The factory logic checks battery charge, engine temperature, climate load and other inputs. If any are outside range it keeps the engine running. The module does not affect those checks.
Can I remove it later?
Yes. Unplug the module and reconnect the factory connector; the vehicle returns to its stock default.
Does it change engine power or fuel trims?
No. It does not reprogram the engine or transmission computers. It only stores the stop-start button state.
How does it connect?
It plugs in line with the factory connector named in the instructions, using factory-style plugs on both ends, so nothing is cut or spliced.
