Product function

Covered vehicles: Listed for the 2008–2010, 2013–2016 Chevrolet Malibu and 2016 Chevrolet Malibu Limited. All fitment rows are marked 100% fitment match. Setup steps are in the included instructions.

Core function: These vehicles use direct TPMS, with a battery-powered sensor in each wheel. Missing sensors are treated as a system fault. The emulator provides the expected signals instead.

Confirm first: Find your exact model year in the fitment rows. Start from a TPMS that works normally on the original sensor wheels.

Going back: When the sensor wheels go back on, remove the emulator as the instructions describe. The vehicle may need its normal TPMS relearn afterwards.

What it does not do: It does not measure tire pressure, so slow leaks will not be reported. Use a gauge and the placard pressures, checked cold, every month. Receiver and wiring faults still need repair.

Where it helps: Owners running sensorless wheels for part of the year. It saves fitting another set of sensors to those wheels.

Rules: FMVSS No. 138 requires TPMS on new US light vehicles built from September 1, 2007. Repair businesses are restricted by 49 U.S.C. 30122 from making TPMS inoperative.

Shipping, returns, warranty: No-cost standard shipping in the contiguous United States (handling 1–2 business days, transit 3–4). Pre-approved returns are accepted for 45 days, with a 20% restocking fee and customer-paid return shipping. The part has a 3-year limited warranty. Fitment questions go to support@automotivebypass.com (Mon–Fri, 9–5 PST); include the VIN.

Description

The Chevrolet Malibu and Chevrolet Malibu Limited expects to hear from a sensor in each wheel. When the wheels on the vehicle have no sensors, the dash shows a TPMS fault. This emulator for the 2008–2010, 2013–2016 Chevrolet Malibu and 2016 Chevrolet Malibu Limited provides those signals so the warning stays off. Keep in mind that the module reports what the system expects to see, not what is actually in the tires. A good gauge becomes your tire-pressure monitor.

Fitment

Each row below is listed as a 100% fitment match:

  • Chevrolet Malibu: 2008–2010, 2013–2016
  • Chevrolet Malibu Limited: 2016

Within these years the receiver and sensor configuration is what the emulator has to match, which is why the listing is split by model and year. The included instructions cover setup for each listed vehicle.

What the factory system is doing

These vehicles use direct TPMS: a battery-powered sensor in each wheel sends pressure readings by radio, and a receiver in the vehicle matches each sensor by its ID. If a sensor goes quiet (dead battery, damaged sensor, or wheels without sensors), the system sets a fault. Federal standard FMVSS No. 138 requires this kind of warning on light vehicles built from September 1, 2007: a steady telltale when a tire is 25% or more below the placard pressure, and a malfunction indication that flashes for about a minute and then stays on when the system cannot work properly.

Using the placard pressure

Use the cold inflation pressure printed on the tire placard on the driver-side door jamb, not the maximum figure molded into the tire sidewall. "Cold" means the vehicle has been parked for about three hours or driven only a short distance. Check every tire including the spare, add air in small steps, and recheck. Doing this monthly covers most of what the TPMS warning would have told you.

Typical uses

The usual situation is a second wheel set: dedicated winter wheels, track wheels or off-road wheels that were never fitted with sensors. Buying and programming a second set of sensors costs money and time, and without them the TPMS light stays on all season. An emulator covers that set while the original wheels and sensors sit in storage.

Checking pressure yourself

A TPMS emulator removes your low-pressure warning, so manual checks have to take its place: cold pressure readings from the placard, a monthly check at minimum, and a look at tread and sidewalls. Inspection and road-use rules for TPMS vary by state, and federal law limits what shops may disable. Confirm the rules for your situation before use.

Troubleshooting

A light that will not clear usually means a mismatch: a different year or receiver version than the listing, or a setup step that did not complete. Re-check the fitment rows and instructions. If they match, scan for codes, because a receiver or module fault will keep the light on regardless of what is installed.

Seasonal wheel swaps

Most owners switch between two sets of wheels once or twice a year. Keep the instructions with the emulator so the swap is easy to repeat, and note which wheels were on which corner. If you have the original sensor wheels mounted again and the light stays on, run the vehicle's standard TPMS relearn procedure.

Scope

  • Supplies the TPMS signals the listed vehicle expects so the warning stays off on wheels without sensors.
  • Does not read, store or display real tire pressures.
  • Does not repair a faulty receiver, body module or wiring.
  • Does not replace pressure checks with a gauge or tire inspections.

Confirm these points

  • Your model and year match a row above (2008–2010, 2013–2016 Chevrolet Malibu and 2016 Chevrolet Malibu Limited).
  • The TPMS system works normally on your original sensor-equipped wheels.
  • No aftermarket TPMS receiver or display has been added.
  • You have a tire gauge and will check pressures manually.
  • Unsure? Email your VIN to support@automotivebypass.com.

Questions & Answers
Does it measure tire pressure?

No. It supplies the signals the system expects. Check pressures with a gauge.

Can I go back to the original sensors?

Yes. Remove the emulator, refit the sensor-equipped wheels and follow the vehicle's normal TPMS procedure.

Which Chevrolet Malibu and Chevrolet Malibu Limited years does this TPMS emulator fit?

The fitment table lists Chevrolet Malibu 2008–2010, 2013–2016; Chevrolet Malibu Limited 2016. Match your exact model and year before ordering.

Why does my TPMS light flash and then stay on?

Under FMVSS No. 138, a light that flashes for about a minute and then stays on indicates a system malfunction, such as missing sensor signals, rather than low pressure.

Can a tire shop work on the vehicle with the emulator installed?

Tell the shop it is installed. Federal law restricts repair businesses from knowingly making TPMS inoperative, so some shops may ask you to remove it first.

Why is TPMS required on US vehicles?

The TREAD Act of 2000 directed NHTSA to require tire-pressure warnings, which led to FMVSS No. 138. All new US light vehicles built from September 1, 2007 must have it.

Is it legal to use on the road?

TPMS is required equipment on new US light vehicles, and rules for owners and inspections vary by state. Check what applies before road use.

Do I still need to check tire pressure?

Yes. Check all tires cold at least once a month with a gauge, using the pressures on the driver-side door-jamb placard.

Will it work on a vehicle that is not listed?

Do not assume it will. TPMS receivers and sensor setups vary by model and year, so match the fitment rows or send the VIN to support.

Will it fix a TPMS receiver or module fault?

No. Receiver, wiring and module faults need their own diagnosis and repair.
