Chevrolet Sonic 2012-2016 TPMS Sensor Emulator
Product function
Applications: Listed for the 2012–2016 Chevrolet Sonic. Each listed year carries a 100% fitment match. The included instructions cover setup for each listed vehicle.
Important: It does not measure tire pressure, so slow leaks will not be reported. Check all tires cold with a gauge at least monthly, using the door-jamb placard pressures.
Original wheels: Swapping back is covered in the included instructions.
In short: These vehicles use direct TPMS, with a battery-powered sensor in each wheel. Wheels without sensors trigger a malfunction warning. This module stands in for those sensors and keeps the dash clear.
Who uses it: Vehicles that spend time on winter steel wheels or off-road wheels without sensors. It saves fitting another set of sensors to those wheels.
Rules: FMVSS No. 138 requires TPMS on new US light vehicles built from September 1, 2007. 49 U.S.C. 30122 bars dealers and repair shops from knowingly disabling it, so some shops may decline to fit the emulator.
Confirm first: Find your exact model year in the fitment rows. A receiver fault on the original wheels has to be fixed first.
Order details: No-cost standard shipping in the contiguous United States (handling 1–2 business days, transit 3–4). Pre-approved returns are accepted for 45 days, with a 20% restocking fee and customer-paid return shipping. The part has a 3-year limited warranty. Send the VIN to support@automotivebypass.com if any row is unclear. Support answers weekdays, 9–5 Pacific.

Description
This module is for the 2012–2016 Chevrolet Sonic. It emulates the factory TPMS sensors, so a set of wheels without sensors does not trigger the low-tire or system-fault warning on the dash. Keep in mind that the module reports what the system expects to see, not what is actually in the tires. A good gauge becomes your tire-pressure monitor.
Vehicles and years
Listed applications (all 100% fitment match):
- Chevrolet Sonic: 2012–2016
Use the model and year rows above as the deciding check. Different receivers or sensor configurations within the same nameplate are why fitment is listed this narrowly.
What the factory system is doing
TPMS became mandatory on new US light vehicles (10,000 lb GVWR or less) on September 1, 2007, under FMVSS No. 138. The required system warns when a tire falls 25% below the recommended cold pressure, and separately flags a malfunction with a flashing-then-steady light. On the Chevrolet Sonic, a missing sensor signal is treated as a malfunction, which is the warning this emulator is meant to address.
Diagnosis first
A light that will not clear usually means a mismatch: a different year or receiver version than the listing, or a setup step that did not complete. Re-check the fitment rows and instructions. If they match, scan for codes, because a receiver or module fault will keep the light on regardless of what is installed.
Checking pressure yourself
TPMS is required safety equipment on new light vehicles in the US under FMVSS No. 138, and 49 U.S.C. 30122 prohibits manufacturers, dealers and repair businesses from knowingly making such equipment inoperative. Requirements for owners and for state inspections vary. Whatever the use, a tire gauge and regular visual checks replace the warning the system would have given you.
Typical uses
It is aimed at vehicles that spend time on wheels without sensors: off-road builds, track days, winter tires on steel wheels, or show vehicles. On each of those, a permanent TPMS light hides any other warning that might appear in the same spot, which is the main reason owners want it gone.
Using the placard pressure
Without TPMS warnings, a monthly routine does the job: tires cold, gauge on each valve, compare with the door-jamb placard, top up as needed, and look over the tread and sidewalls. Larger off-road or winter tires may call for different pressures than the factory placard; follow the tire maker's guidance in that case.
Switching between wheel sets
Most owners switch between two sets of wheels once or twice a year. Keep the instructions with the emulator so the swap is easy to repeat, and note which wheels were on which corner. If you have the original sensor wheels mounted again and the light stays on, run the vehicle's standard TPMS relearn procedure.
Scope
- Supplies the TPMS signals the listed vehicle expects so the warning stays off on wheels without sensors.
- Does not read, store or display real tire pressures.
- Does not repair a faulty receiver, body module or wiring.
- Does not replace pressure checks with a gauge or tire inspections.
Check before you order
- Your model and year match a row above (2012–2016 Chevrolet Sonic).
- The TPMS system works normally on your original sensor-equipped wheels.
- No aftermarket TPMS receiver or display has been added.
- You have a tire gauge and will check pressures manually.
- Unsure? Email your VIN to support@automotivebypass.com.
Warranty and returns
Free standard shipping covers the contiguous US, with dispatch in 1–2 business days and 3–4 days on the road after that. You have 45 days to request a return (pre-approval required, 20% restocking fee, buyer-paid return shipping). The module is backed by a 3-year limited warranty. For order or fitment questions, write to support@automotivebypass.com between 9 and 5 Pacific, Monday through Friday.
Questions & Answers
Does it measure tire pressure?
No. It supplies the signals the system expects. Check pressures with a gauge.
Can I go back to the original sensors?
Yes. Remove the emulator, refit the sensor-equipped wheels and follow the vehicle's normal TPMS procedure.
Why does my TPMS light flash and then stay on?
Under FMVSS No. 138, a light that flashes for about a minute and then stays on indicates a system malfunction, such as missing sensor signals, rather than low pressure.
Which Chevrolet Sonic years does this TPMS emulator fit?
The fitment table lists Chevrolet Sonic 2012–2016. Match your exact model and year before ordering.
Is it legal to use on the road?
TPMS is required equipment on new US light vehicles, and rules for owners and inspections vary by state. Check what applies before road use.
Will it work on a vehicle that is not listed?
Do not assume it will. TPMS receivers and sensor setups vary by model and year, so match the fitment rows or send the VIN to support.
Do I still need to check tire pressure?
Yes. Check all tires cold at least once a month with a gauge, using the pressures on the driver-side door-jamb placard.
Can a tire shop work on the vehicle with the emulator installed?
Tell the shop it is installed. Federal law restricts repair businesses from knowingly making TPMS inoperative, so some shops may ask you to remove it first.
Why is TPMS required on US vehicles?
The TREAD Act of 2000 directed NHTSA to require tire-pressure warnings, which led to FMVSS No. 138. All new US light vehicles built from September 1, 2007 must have it.
Will it fix a TPMS receiver or module fault?
No. Receiver, wiring and module faults need their own diagnosis and repair.
